Someone just forwarded this email to me - funny or offensive?
I just got this forward and, personally, I think it's incredibly offensive. Does anyone else get emails like this and what do you do if you're offended? Do you tell the person who sent it or just let it go?
Here it is:
FINALLY, SOMEONE HAS CLEARED THIS UP FOR ME....
For centuries, Hindu women have worn a dot on their foreheads. Most of us have naively thought this was connected with marriage or religion, but the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C. has recently revealed the true story.
When a Hindu woman gets married, she brings a dowry into the union. On her wedding night, the husband scratches off the dot to see whether he has won a convenience store, a gas station, a donut shop or a motel in the United States. If nothing is there, he must take a job in India answering telephones giving technical advice.

Personally being married to an Indian(Guyanese) man I find offensive and tasteless.

When I get an email like that I hit "reply all" and tell the sender (all all of his.her friens) how ignorant it is.

I just read emails like this and wonder to myself "Who would actually find this funny?" and think "What about me makes this person think that *I* would find this humorous at all?"
Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something that would make this a comedic gem instead of an obviously racist commentary.
ETA: I didn't think of this one as a "poking fun at stereotypes" but maybe that was the intent of the person who sent it.

Many times I laugh at email forwards. Sometimes I find them offensive. I've never made a comment to the sender, though. However, as a rule, I NEVER send any of them on.
To be honest, and maybe no one is on the same wavelength as me- the one I received last week was the most offensive one, IMO, that I ever received.
It was a beautiful photo of a religous figure. Then, it basically said if I didn't forward it to 13 people, tragedy would befall me and my family and we'd all burn in hell.

Those are the worst.
I recently got a string of "patriotic" emails with a lot of racist and ignorant propaganda and I told the sender exactly what i felt about it, and this is one of my best friends. I'm thinking "wow, does she not know me??"
Then again this is the person who saw the book "Reading Lolita in Tehran" on my kitchen table and said "I don't know how you can read that. I'm so angry." as in how could I read about Msulim people after 9/11? I could have killed her, as apparently she doesn't realize that my very best friend is Muslim, and also that I'm not a bigoted moron who doesn't know the difference between a terrorist and a schoolgirl wearing a hijab.
Yeah we're just a little bit different.

I am Jewish and when people send Jewish jokes, I find it funny not offensive... But I don't get offended easily...

I don't find it offensive but it is not incredibly funny. Most jokes offend in some way and as long as they are equal opportunity offenders I am OK. You see it for what it is.
When I was in college Chris Rock came to perform and people were all offended by his performance - you can't take everything too seriously.
I laugh at jokes about my ethnicity all the time...

Actually I find it funny. I got this a while ago and honestly, I LMAO.
And that includes jokes of other races/religions including my own.......
A joke is a joke and they're said and forwarded all day long.........of every race/religion/ethnicity possible.

I thought it was funny...
I am Jewish and when people send Jewish jokes, I find it funny not offensive... But I don't get offended easily...

Considering they don't know if the forward is to someone who may have Indian relatives, etc., I think it's pretty offensive.
