Sometimes "mommy friends" are more brutal than kids on a playground.

Joining a group of moms who all had kids around the same time was a great idea for about a year. It's truly amazing that some people have no problem hugging you and stabbing you in the back all in the same motion.

What is it about <some> women and their intense desire to put others down to make themselves feel superior?

Sorry for the mini-vent. Could use a hug... or two.

Not that its right, but LuAnn on Real Housewives of NYC said it best in a blog:

If you don't gossip with your girlfriends, then you don't have many girlfriends. I know its horrible, but lets be honest, when you get a batch of women together, gossip (both good and bad) comes up.

See I really disagree with this. I think it is just an excuse for bad behavior. If I can't say something to your face, I won't say it behind your back. Maybe this is why I don't have a ton of girlfriends but the ones I have are a collection of good people. Those who prove me wrong can find someone else to gossip with and be two faced to.

Because "some" women refuse to grow up and get their minds out of high school.

TOTALLY agree- I have a core group of friends who all have young children/babies and I can honestly say that we never, NEVER talk about each other behind our backs. If we ever have an issue, which is rare, we usually talk about it openly together as a group.

Re: Sometimes "mommy friends" are more brutal than kids on a playground.

I am very fortunate that I have 5 friends that I have made thru a mommies group and all of our little ones are the same age. We love getting together for playdates so we can chat about the kids, work, our lives, etc. We don't talk about the other mommies who aren't able to gtg. These women are my friends. IMO, if one of those biitches said something to put you down or make you feel bad, then she is not your friend. F her!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Sometimes "mommy friends" are more brutal than kids on a playground.

you're meeting the wrong women! I have a circle of about 7 or 8 girls from LIF that are absolutely AMAZING. I could honestly NEVER see any of them doing anything vicious like that to each other. we're always there for each other and give advice without sounding "know it all" ish. I say, go meet new friends, don't put yourself out there too much before really getting to know them! LIF is a great way to meet new mommy friends

Re: Sometimes "mommy friends" are more brutal than kids on a playground.

I'm beginning to think that most women are like this...mommies or not. When I was subbing, women teachers were so catty. There were cliques in the teachers lounge, I heard them talking about what the other teachers were wearing (who does this!?), wouldn't sit with aides or teachers assistants, etc. They were just so, so catty it really made my stomach turn. The best way to put it, it reminded me of the catty girls I went to high school with, it's as if they were the same girls, only older with a job. Why is it so hard to find good women friends?

People can judge so easily and talk so freely. So frustrating sometimes.

What drives me bananas is the BEHIND THE BACK talk....I like to gossip a little, but I always operate on the rule that I would say everything that I talk about to the person's face...if I can't then I shouldn't be saying it in the first place.

sounds like they aren't really friends! i have a group of mommies i am friends with and love dearly. i don't think any of us has ever said an unkind word about the others. we know we aren't perfect and our kids aren't perfect either. we also know they develop in different ways at different times. we do the best we can and support each other.

I live by the rule that whatever I say about someone I must be willing to say straight to them, or it doesn't come out of my mouth.
