sonogram vs. ultrasound?
BFP in hiding here...won't be for too long, waiting to tell my parents.
Ok.. first question..
My dr's website says You will have an ultrasound at 18-20 weeks, usually at a radiology center. If everything looks fine, that will be the only formal ultrasound during the pregnancy.
So I thought that meant we'll only get to see the baby once... s ucks, but I really like the practice so I shrugged it off.
However, when I called to make my first appt she said to come in at 8 weeks, they'll do a sonogram and we can see the little peanut for the first time.
All google searches seem to use sonogram and ultrasound interchangeably am I missing something?

Re: sonogram vs. ultrasound?
son·o·gram (sn-grm, sn-) n. An image, as of an unborn fetus, produced by ultrasonography. Also called echogram, sonograph, ultrasonogram.
The terms refer to the same thing

Thanks.
I wonder why they bother putting that on their website then....

Re: sonogram vs. ultrasound?
Maybe formal just means it's in the hospital as opposed to in the office? My 20-week was my only hospital one but my OB has the machines in the office so I have one every visit.

Re: sonogram vs. ultrasound?
Ultrasound technologist here!
an ultrasound is to photography as a sonogram is to a photograph (and you thought you were done with the SATs!)
people use them interchangebly, but in reality an ultrasound is the test whereas the sonogram is the pic you take home and drool over
HTH!
