Sore, Swollen, bleeding gums???
Weird things started happening to my mouth yesterday. My gums were sore to the touch, swollen, it was slightly uncomfortable to chew food and now when I brush my teeth my gums bleed a lot. I have regular dental checks ups so I am not sure what is going on. Should I go to the dentist or is this just a symptom of pregnancy?

that is a symptom of pregnancy, but maybe you can call your dentist and see if there is a rinse they can recommend.

Re: Sore, Swollen, bleeding gums???
It's perfectly normal. Isn't that just lovely! lol It's caused by the hormones. It's called pregnancy gingivitis. When I was pregnant with my DC#1, I ran to the dentist not know what was wrong and he told me it was perfectly normal and that it would go away in once the baby came.
It doesn't hurt to go and get it checked out. You don't want it to turn into something more serious!

Re: Sore, Swollen, bleeding gums???
It can start early. Best thing to do is really, really take care of your teeth and gums. Floss, brush, fluoride rinse like its going out of style. You're very vunerable to decay during pregnancy. It's important for you to take good care of your teeth and gums while you are pregnant. Pregnancy causes hormonal changes that increase your risk of developing gum disease, which in turn, can affect the health of your developing baby.

Nope, not too early. If it makes you feel any better. I'm almost 9 weeks and mine have been like this for weeks now.

Re: Sore, Swollen, bleeding gums???
Please go get a professional cleaning. I see my patients every 3 months during their pregnancies. In the meantime you can use a warm salt water rinse to bring the swelling down

It's normal but I went for more regular cleanings to help alleviate it a little.

My dentist told me to stop using Listerine b/c of the alcohol content.
