516,000K

We put about 50% down ( we had a smaller house to sell)

And paid for an additional 110K worth of renovations from savings.

$635K

We put over 50% down... $335K (profits from sale of our first house, plus we had paid ahead a lot on the first house's mortgage)

$365K

Put down 10% plus closing costs. Ended with $10K in the bank! Chat Icon

We did an 8/10/10 piggy back loan. After 2 years we refinanced to get rid of the piggy back loan and some credit card debt and now we have one mortgage with no PMI since the property appraised high.

At least the second loan is tax deductible...PMI isn't.

287,500 sellers concession for closing 80/20. PMI isn't necessarily always a bad thing. You have to figure out the payment and what makes more sense

Re: Sorry if this is to personal - maybe someone can make a poll

wow, i must be the poorest member of this board! Chat Icon But maybe it's the age or that we only have one income coming in. Chat Icon i am buying my first house $375,000. I am only putting down 3% (yikes, i know) Paying closing up front. 30 year with pmi since the interest is rising and now is not a good idea to do the fluncuating interest thing(at least for me). Will have neary 20K after closing to make sure house ownership doesn't turn into a nightmare.

fir those who put down less than 20%, did you take out a 2nd loan to put 20% down or are you paying PMI?

We took out two loans to avoid PMI. We put down 10% and paid the closing fees. Chat Icon

Oh yes...our house was $350,000. Chat Icon

we're not homeowners yet, but we plan to put at least 10% down and do a 80/10/10 mortgage to avoid PMI. we will pay closing costs up front.

My buddy is closing this week

He's doing $430k, no DP, sellers concession for closing costs, (106% financing) and the seller is giving him 6,500 cash at closing to do some renovations.

Im jealous... we are walking away from our closing poor and he's walking away with extra $$.
Oh well, thats life!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't be too jealous - he owes more than his house is worth! Thats a dangerous game in the current marketplace. Chat Icon

We are looking at $1M and will put $200k down. You would be surprised at what you CAN'T get in NJ for this kind of money Chat Icon

The house next door to us is $1Mil. Gorgeous house, but taxes are insane. There are also two houses on my street in the 900k range that absolutely gorgeous.

I have been shocked over what $1M will get you- certainly not my dream house- some have been laughable

I actually hung up on a forsale by owner when she tried to explain how her 4 bedroom house was worth $1.8M

Re: Sorry if this is to personal - maybe someone can make a poll

ours was 529, we put down 20% and paid closing upfront. We had money in the bank, but that was b/c of the sale of our first place and saving a new downpayment.
