speaking of car dealers....I have a story

when SIl was in the market for a new truck a few months ago she went and test drove and went to a few dealerships and she saw a suburban she liked and talked to the salesman about it and he asked ok where is your husband.....so she was like oh this truck is for me not him
he told her he would only deal with him.....now my sil has a great job and makes good money and is very independent
she wears the"pants"
so she told the guy you deal with me
he told her to bring her husband back and they will work something out

Can you believe that??
I think they even had the nerve to call her a few weeks later to see what was going on and she gave another guy a piece of her mind

This same exact thing happened to my mom when she was buying her Durango. My mom told him off and never went back.

Re: speaking of car dealers....I have a story

Happens all the time unfortunately. Any time we needed a car, my mom would go with me to the dealership. It would take about 10 minutes for someone to ask us if we needed help (we would make eye contact with them and everything).

Then when we would go to actually buy something, my mom would whip out her calculator, and do figures. She knows exactly what she is willing to pay. 9 times out of 10, the salesmen doesn't know what hit him, or why he just sold a car close to cost. LOL

That's discrimination!

I would write a very "nice" note to the dealership telling them about my experience.Chat Icon

OK, not to be totally rude, are you absolutely certain that this had nothing to do with her credit? It sounds like they never even got the the part where they run her credit but I can see them being jerks if they feel she needs a co-signer.

ITA. And any time this happens I would get one of the equality orgs invovled.

I am perfectly capable of shopping for my own car, and actually walked out once b/c when I asked for the "specs" the jerk gave me the "options" and was convinced that was what I was asking for, no matter how many times I told him, "No I want the specs, not the options."Chat Icon

Re: speaking of car dealers....I have a story

wow, that is really bad.

I usually go with DH. I use him. I let the sales person talk to him and I listen.

Then when it comes time for the numbers, DH clams up and hands it over to me.

The salesperson is usually blind sided. This happened at Infinity. We got such a great deal, but then we decided we didn't love the car enough.

They were so Po'd at us, it took almost 6 weeks for them to return our deposit. I had Amex go after them and it took a week.

Lexus was a different story. They talked to both of us and were respectful of the customer. I will definitely be back there if I decide on a Lexus. The Infinity dealer is done. Never going back. They lost a customer for life. They did talk to DH and not me at first.

Re: speaking of car dealers....I have a story

This kinda happened to me. I was about 22 and I walked into a dealership ready to buy a car. Not ONE person would pay attention to me because I was young and female. I had a pocketfull of money (just sold a motorcycle and got insurance $ from my last car) and not one person wanted my business. Their loss!! I went elsewhere and gave all that money to someone else Chat Icon

Re: speaking of car dealers....I have a story

that's just wrong. i would have written a letter to the owner of the dealership!

i may not know much about CARS but i know about numbers. when i went to buy my car--DH (my FH at the time) went with me for the car stuff---and when we went to sit down and talk numbers--they were mostly looking at him. and i was letting them know it would be in MY NAME and my credit. they tried to sell me a used car that wasn't worth the amount they were charging instead of a new one. i let them know what the max amount i would be willing to pay a month would be---and refused to budget. they eventually came down in price and APR and did it.

Similar thing happened to me this past weekend. I was asking the dealer some questions, and he kept looking past me and anwering DH! I told him off and we left. A few minutes later, he came running out to our car asking DH if i was still mad! Chat Icon Chat Icon

The Lexus dealer in Massapequa earned my trust. They treated us very well even though we ended up not buying at the time.

The salesman was a true gentleman and made us feel very comfortable.

Now, the BMW...that's another story!Chat Icon

She should fax the invoice of her new car that she bought over to their sales manager to show him the sale he lost.Chat Icon

My DH is a dealer and I just showed him your post. He was FLOORED Chat Icon He couldn't believe it. He said that was unbelievable and so unprofessional.

He did say its amazing since salespeople are required to take many training course dealing with issues like this. DH told me that women now control almost 50% of auto purchases. Tell this dealer he needs to take some refresher courses. Chat Icon
