Re: Speaking of getting rid of the pacifier....
Thanks. That's a good idea.
Jordana is such a sucker. Even when she was just a day or two old the nurse told me to put my finger in her mouth. She is so attached to her pacifier. But I will wean her off at 12 months because she isn't allowed in the next room in her daycare with her pacifier.

Re: Speaking of getting rid of the pacifier....
BOth my kids gave up on the paci at 3-4 months.... then each found thier thumb Luckily, Andrew stopped sucking his thumb on his own at about 16 months. Lauren is not as bad as him, so we are just going to see what happens with her thumb sucking....

Re: Speaking of getting rid of the pacifier....
Bella is addicted to the binkie at night. We only use it at night and for car rides...
I am afraid to break her from it...I am thinking 15 months-ish. DH is bad...sometimes we'll be shopping and I turn around and she'll have it in her mouth and I feel like strangling him...

Re: Speaking of getting rid of the pacifier....
We only use the binky for naps and bedtime. Half the time it's out of his mouth within 30 mins anyway. While I know I could break the habit fairly easily right now, I don't want to because he is also a thumbsucker! So my concern is that without the binky he'll become more addicted to the thumb which right now he only sucks when he's hungry or tired. I think the thumb is worse so I'm waiting on the binky.
But this is great advice and I'm sure it will work when the time comes. If you get a chance ask your mom about combination binky/thumbsuckers...what is the best route for me to go...

Re: Speaking of getting rid of the pacifier....
Daniel only had the pacifier ( we call it a fafa) naps and night time, then when he was 19 months, we went on acation, now the kid is 2 and I can't get it away from him! I can't stand it, he is sick now, but as soon as it is cleared up, I am done with this thing! I will try poking holes in them, but what size holes, like pinholes or with a fork or something?

We're going on day 5 without the binky. She still asks for it and god forbid she sees a pictures of herself w/one in her mouth. But so far, so good

Re: Speaking of getting rid of the pacifier....
I heard of that trick too, luckly Julia doesnt use one so I dont have to worry about that, but my sister tried to poke a hole in her kids pacifiers and they flipped out and so she had to buy new ones.

Re: Speaking of getting rid of the pacifier....
Kevin still has his nimmy at 15 months and the dr. scolded me when he saw Kevin with it at his last visit.
Kevin is teething so much lately and we keep his nimmies in the fridge to get cold and it helps with his teeth.
For some reason he's been wanting it more and more lately. You should see the smile on his face when I ask if he wants his nimmy...He loves his nimmy more than me I think
I think I'll try weaning him off it soon after his 1 year molars finish coming in.

Yes, I guess I should have added that they do flip out. But that's why you have to start with very small pinholes.

Re: Speaking of getting rid of the pacifier....
Rachel.... thanks for the advice and it jogged my memory of my undergrad work in speech path. they did mention in one class pacifier use and this "method". I was just starting to wonder how to ween Bella off hers in a few months.
Hope all's well!
