Speaking on behalf of the husbands
I've read some posts where the ladies want us to go out and surprise them with a gift they didn't ask for, put some thought in, and wrap it ourselves.
Let me pose this. Would you rather
1. Us do that and be totally wrong - thus making you unhappy. Possibly get you clothes or jewlery that either doesnt fit or is not your style.
OR
2. buy exactly what you ask us to buy, thus keeping in line with your wants and expectations

Honestly, #2. This is why DH and I send each other Word doc, with links to the things we want. Win, Win.

ORRRR option #3.. Get the perfect present that is a surpirse and something we didn't even know we wanted... because you know us so well and listen to everything we ever say....
Umm yeah.. I just had this argument with my DH...

speaking as someone who has been on the receiving end of both 1 & 2, I prefer #2 although I must admit, DH has also done pretty well on his own

how about 3
take the extra effort to look in the lingerie drawer to get correct bra/pantie size.
check in the closet for correct dress side...OR for even higher points, bring a dress to two to the store for the sales lady to help you out with.
same for jeans...
swipe a pair, bring em to the store...
don't just sit back and use the "I'll get the wrong size" easy excuse bit. go the extra mile and make SURE shyt is RIGHT.
its' really not that hard.

Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands
Honestly, I'd prefer # 2, though I do love it when my husband comes through and gets me something I haven't asked for that I love. He's done this in the past and it's great. However, he has gone off on his own and it's wound up being disasterous.

Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands
lol i think you might be referencing my post a little bit when i said i just wanted my DH to get something on his own for me and wrap it himself.......i think everyone is different--but my DH is actually very good at picking out clothes and such for me. (i think his fashion sense for me is better than me) but he gets too "nervous" that he might pick something wrong. (he never has) so instead he goes for the easy route--i.e. jewelry.
i just like the idea that he actually PUTS EFFORT into taking a moment and saying "what can i get my wife?" and going and getting it. like i said, it could be just a simple sweater--but if he puts the thought into it and saying "i went to a store , saw this, thought of you, and knew you'd like it." then it makes me feel like he took it seriously and thought about it.

Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands
As someone who is married 13 years, I can honestly say #2 without a doubt. We are at the stage in our marriage where we really are able, within reason, to buy ourselves whatever we want.
The most thoughtful things my dh does for me actually cost little or no money. He always gives me 4-5 cards, from him and the kids and gets me beautiful flowers.
For occasions, I usually frame pictures of the kids and us for his office. I wouldn't dare buy him electronics for his boat or computer gear. This system took us a few years to work out and it works for us.

#2 I hate surprises and I am very particular. DH is very practical and would never spend money on something I might not like.

SERIOUSLY!!
well i know my hubby knows my sizes--cause he's been with me on more than one occasion in Lane Bryant picking out clothes-- but i know that SOOOOO many times husband do NOT know their wife's sizes at all.
yet i'm sure if a poll was posted---most women would say they know shoe, waist, length, shirt, etc. size on their husband while they don't know about their wives!!!

My DH only knows XL & my bra size. Wouldn't know waist size or shoe size if it killed him.
