Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands

I'd prefer #2 with maybe one surprise item thrown in there. DH has really good taste and usually does well with picking out gifts for me.

Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands

#2...

BUT - Most of the time when I tell DH specific things that i want, he gets "almost" the same thing and that is SOOO annoying. I hate to sound ungrateful, but it drives me crazy.

One year I wanted a knock off of the Tiffany bubble necklace. Instead, I got the 3 stone necklace. Fine, I kept it.

This year for my birthday I asked for a David Yurman necklace that matched a ring I had. Well, he got the same color stone, but a different style. I exchanged it.

Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands

actually DH is great at taking hints and i have never gotten a gift i didn't love. if it was something big (like when he got me my e-ring) he asked me what i wanted to make sure he got it right.

i, on the other hand, could use a few pointers on gift giving. i am terrible at knowing what to get!!

so i choose #4 - let him keep doing what he's been doing Chat Icon

#2 I hate surprises and I am very particular. DH is very practical and would never spend money on something I might not like.

oh don't get me wrong - i know her interests

i mean up and down the line, we like exactly the same stuff, except for maybe one thing

lking something
and liking something enough to own it, are two different things, IMO

for example, boosh LOVES the movie dirty dancing - loves it loves it loves it

she has the DVD

now let's say they come out with yet ANOTHER super duper deluxe anniversary edition with 20 hours of bonus footage.

I know she'd like that - but her being practical, she may not feel the need to own it - since she already has the DVD.

So, i'd appreciate the heads up as to whether or not she'd want to own before I buy it.

I like option 2 because I know I will get what i want and I always tell him the one thing I definitely want, but then he also gets things that he thinks I will like so I guess its the best of both worlds...He however NEVER tells me what he wants, always says "I dont need anything"Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

but still, i finished my gifts for him..

Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands

we take #2 a step further in my house

I buy what I want- and he pays the bill

he has tried in the past to pick stuff out for me- and besides my ring- it has always gone back

it's not that he isn't capable- b/c I know he is- but I am not an easy person to shop for

Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands

I'll go with option#3- go pick out my own gifts and make sure they fit and tell Dh this what i want,'OR' I will give him a list of my size and show him what i want than he will go out on his own and get it for me... But i'll admit last year he did very well and he got me really nice stuff!!!Chat Icon

how about 3

take the extra effort to look in the lingerie drawer to get correct bra/pantie size.

check in the closet for correct dress side...OR for even higher points, bring a dress to two to the store for the sales lady to help you out with.

same for jeans...

swipe a pair, bring em to the store...

don't just sit back and use the "I'll get the wrong size" easy excuse bit. go the extra mile and make SURE shyt is RIGHT.

its' really not that hard.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Amen!!

I dont buy a pair or pants or a shirt for my DH close to his size....I buy it in the correct size!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands

We do both.

One present is hand picked and listed on each's Amazon wish list. Or verbally told to the other.

The second (and third, fourth, etc. possibly) present is a surprise. Something meaningful, something unexpected.

It's only been 8 years for us, but we've never been at a loss for creative and thoughtful presents. And we've never bought each other clothes.

For the unexpected presents, I usually do something very useful, something very decadent, and something very frivolous.

Hasn't failed us yet. Even if the unexpected presents did bomb, you know you've got the ones you hand-picked!

OK...here is another husbands thought...go out, buy what you want, charge it...I will pay it Chat Icon

In all reality, between christmas, hanukkah, valentine's day, anniversary, B-day....and 12 other holidays I missed, one tends to once a year or so run out of ideas.

I know my wife, I know what she likes (except for clothing)...but sometimes I want to get something more meaningful that I want to make sure is the size or style or look....

Re: Speaking on behalf of the husbands

Since we don't live in a lala land, the perfect present as a surprise will not always happen. Although, DH has surprised me quite a few times with wonderful gifts.

I usually ask for what I want. No surprises but I don't get disappointed either. I always ask him what he wants.

My DH doesn't get a list - but he does get it right on occasion.

I would opt for #3 - listen to me throughout the year & you'll pick up enough ideas on your own.

i will reiterate what i said

listening sometimes doesn't necessarily mean you get it right

liking something and wanting to own something are 2 different things

i know boosh better than she knows herself - i know what she'll like before she says it.

My point is - she may like it, but may not want to own it.

Hence it's good when I get the OK before I go and buy something
