Speech delayed toddler

My 2 year old sees a Speech and OT therapist. They gave me ideas to use boards with him so he can point what he wants. He does have a lot of words, and getting much better. Just need something that shows him yes and no and other things. I guess I can make my own too, but wanted to get ideas.
Funny thing is he does talk a lot, but not always comprehends. He understands some stuff and other times he just mimics me. Doesn't always seem to fully understand what i ask him to do. Of course he's also stubborn and has selective hearing

What kind of ideas are you looking for?

You can take actual photographs of common items that he likes, laminate them and then stick velcro on the back. You can then have a velcro board where you keep them and he can pull one picture off and give it to you.

I wouldn't do Yes and No yet because those are hard to conceptualize and to make into a meaningful picture, KWIM?

I would do

FOODS - any of his favorites. breakfast choices, lunch choices, snack choices, etc. crackers, goldish, strawberries... whatever he likes to eat.

TOYS - train, cars, TV, drums, etc.

maybe a picture of his crib so he can tell you when he's tired and a picture of a diaper so he can tell you if he peed/pooped....

Something like this... But obviously this one has sentences and you don't necessarily need that. This is just a simple toddler request board.

I started following a group on Pinterest named PediaStaff. They are pediatric therapists who post their ideas and suggestions for all kinds of child therapy and have specific boards for different kinds. They have some amazing ideas on there.
