Can I please share my speech delayed DS's gigantically huge speech accomplishment?
2.5 year old DS is very speech delayed, he is actually most likely apraxic (difficult to officially diagnose at his age), but he has been receiving speech therapy since he was 2 and progress has been....slow. He has one word that he uses correctly, UP. He has like, 3 or 4 other word approximations that he'll repeat but won't use on his own.
Anyway, if i point to myself and say what's my name he'll say maaaaaa, not a succint ma, but it's close. This in itself was huge when he first said it, but just yesterday, for the very first time, he said MAMA, to me, unprompted. Ma-ma!!!
I almost died. And then I screamed, and then I cried.  Seriously though, 2 syllables together is HUUUUUUGE!!! HUGE!!! His speech therapist is so psyched.
And I'm so excited to finally hear my 2 1/2 year old little boy FINALLY say mama.
I feel like people are always posting about their kids talking and I can never really identify. I'm very happy for everyone else but it always hurts a little inside (ok, hurts alot) because I worry that he'll never get there. I barely know what his speaking voice even sounds like until very recently, but hearing him say mama.....oh my god. It's so amazing......I just pray that the rest of it comes soon enough. Baby steps I know, but I'll take what I can get for now.

That is terrific news!! So happy for you and DS!
I totally understand. My 2 year old is in speech as well. He has a lot of words, but I undeerstand them all. Others find it hard.
Took him a while to say mommy and I love it.

totally amazing! The first time a child says "mama" is momentous to any mom!

 What a great accomplishment for him and a great feeling for you! DS didn't start consistently calling me mommy until almost 2.5.

Thanks, he works soooo hard!! Speech delayed kids work so hard, they really do, as I'm sure you know.
And I cannot wait to say my kid won't shut up...cannot wait!

That is wonderful!! I can relate. DD was very speech delayed and did really talk until she was 3. They said that she might be apraxic but again, couldn't tell because of her age. Congrats and this is just the beginning! By 3.5 I couldn't shut my DD up! She now talks morning, noon and night!!

It's so frustrating, he shows all the signs but even if he is, only time will tell how much better he actually gets. But for now I'm so over the moon with each syllable that comes out. So happy for your DD!
