I see people spelling SEPARATE as SEPERATE all the time. That drives me nutty.

"discusted" gets to me too, but I'm sure there have been times when my mind or fingers lapsed and I made a doozie without even thinking/knowing

Sometimes my head is somewhere else, so I don't usually hold typos against people.

Yesterday I wrote "come" instead of "comb". Chat Icon

i ALWAYS spell definitely (definetly) wrong. since this is an "informal" site, i am not bothered by the spelling errors. however, i am VERY particular and anal when it come to formal writing.

I do this too!!!

Re: Spelling Tips

I really don't care how people spell on the internet.

I for once have trouble writing some words because english is not my first language.

I am truly a two finger typer, I use my left index for shift & tab & my right index for all letters, numbers, symbols & space Chat Icon
So I'll admit my words are often screwed up, however I'm just happy enough to get any words out with my terrible keyboarding skills.
Honestly, it doesn't bother me much online but when people speak words incorrectly it irritates me slightly
And I will now use the spellchecker for the first time ever because I never saw it beforeChat Icon

I said I cant spell. I admit that. Its the total mis-use of very easy words that drives me up a wall.

I'll admit, I've done the Chat Icon several times when I see "easy" words spelled incorrectly. I am also an excellent speller, won a spelling bee and all Chat Icon, but I've definitely made a few spelling errors in haste. I don't believe in spell check. Chat Icon

Spelled and spelt are both correct. One is british english and one is american english.

To me spelling isnt important, especially on an internet message board. It is important for academic work, IMO. I teach ESL and I do not take off points for spelling unless it changes the meaning. I will correct it for them, but I do not take off points. They have enough to worry about and spelling is the least of their worries (I teach lower levels).

Re: Spelling (WORD) Tips

I see this on the celeb board and I don't know why it drives me insane:

Brittany Spears...

Um, IT'S BRITNEY!! Hence the title of the post, her name in big letters from the bloggers and 99% of the other posters writing it this way. Why, oh why must you spell it "Brittany"...isn't that a kind of dog? Chat Icon I'll even take "Brittney" over "Brittany".

OK, I'm done!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon Too funny, I always say "it's Jes!!!" when someone spells her name Jess. It's right under her avatar. Maybe you should make yours more obvious. Chat Icon
