Spin-off: Food not from scratch
Is there anything you make, that you get a lot of compliments on, even though it's not made from scratch?
Lasagna is mine if you read the other thread.
I do make my own sauce though if I'm not in a rush.
I like to use a combination of sausage and beef.

Spin-off: Food not from scratch
Marble cake. I got so many compliments on a cake I brought to work once and it was just the box mix and canned icing! I used to bring in lots of home baked stuff which people always liked but I don't think anything was talked about as much as that cake. lol

This. I make a pina colada rum cake that has a boxed mix as the base, but I add a lot of ingredients to it. I'm always asked for the recipe; it's one of the few I don't share though.

I make a lot from scratch but nothing beats this brownie not even home made. There is just something so good about it!

Re: Spin-off: Food not from scratch
I make most things from scratch.
However, I get rave reviews when I make slow cooker cocktail meatballs using frozen Cooked Perfect mini Swedish meatballs, a jar of Heinz chili sauce, and a jar of grape jelly! HUGE crowd pleaser.
I also make Paula Dean's corn casserole (uses Jiffy corn muffin mix as a base and adds tons of fat... butter, sour cream, etc. to it!) at Thanksgiving and other holidays, bbqs, etc. and everyone loves it.

I make caramel brownies (2 layers of brownies with a layer of caramel in the middle) and people FREAK OUT. It's all I'm ever allowed to bring to family events. And all it is is Ghiardelli brownie mix with 2 packages of melted caramels in between!!

Pumpkin chocolate cookies. I used to make them from scratch, and found a shortcut that tastes just as good!

Re: Spin-off: Food not from scratch
I make this pasta dish that everyone loves and I use jarred sauce but I add a whole bunch of other stuff. DH used to work at an Italian restaurant and his favorite dish was pasta #3 so I recreated it. It's penne pasta with spinach, chicken, mozzarella and vodka sauce. I use Victoria's sauce.

Do you bake the first layer of brownie half way?
For the caramels, do you melt them first then pour over the first layer?
I NEED to make this!
