spin off from Deb's 90 second post
Everyone should invest in a lock box. They aren't a lot of money, they're fire safe, and it's a great place to keep all of your important documents in- in ours we have some extra cash, passports, social security cards, insurance policies, DD's savings bonds, jewelry I don't wear, etc... in the case of an emergency- it's easier to just grab that one box then to think of what you need.
I think we got ours from Home Depot for like $30
one more reminder that I haven't done yet- keep photo copies of all your ID's and CC's in your lock box- front & backs- that way if you do lose your wallet, you have all the information.

We have one. We made sure it's firesafe as well. I keep all our jewelry and important documents in there.

Re: spin off from Deb's 90 second post
I've also heard (after Hurricane Katrina) that you should put the fireproof box in a waterproof bag or container then too, in case the fire's not in the same room but they have to spray water and the documents will get wet inside. That's if the boxes aren't waterproof, which I don't think mine is.
Again, if the fire's in that room the bag/storage box will melt, but if it's not in the room, your documents are dry still. They said it can't hurt.

Re: spin off from Deb's 90 second post
We have one. It is fire safe for one hour at 2000 Degrees. It is totally worth it for documents you keep in the house. I also keep my heirloom stuff in there when I am not wearing it.

We do have a fireproof lock box but I forgot to put that on her post! I do wish it were a little bigger though.
