spin-off of chicken pox party
Would you purposely expose yourself to fifth's disease if you already knew you weren't immune and wanted to get pregnant? (especially being a teacher)
I already had it but I was just wondering what you guys thought and it did cause tragedy in a pregnant teacher in my school

Re: spin-off of chicken pox party
How would you really do it, I am pretty sure by the time a kid is showing it is already to late...meaning it is no longer contagious. Am I wrong?

Re: spin-off of chicken pox party
I think I'd discuss that with my ob/gyn to see if there is another way of becoming immune to it (a shot, etc)
exposing yourself just risks the pregnant women you'd come in contact with while you weren't sure it worked or not.

Re: spin-off of chicken pox party
I think this one is hard to catch being planned ~ since when you are most contagious is before you even know you have it.... (most contagious two weeks prior before showing signs of fifth's disease) I had fifth's disease during my pregnancy.... I thought I caught it from a girl at work but I actually caught in a month or two before... My DS had to monitored for water in his heart & brain ~ it was a very scary thing....

Re: spin-off of chicken pox party
YES! I am a teacher and my last pregnancy I had to leave my classroom 4 times for 2 + weeks and I had to start my maternity leave 4 weeks early! Thankfully each time I did not catch it, but it was really scary.
I already told the nurse at school to send anyone that has it to my room so I can be exposed. I do not want to go through this again. It was quite stressful and very annoying!
