Spin-off: Those with good family health plans
WHERE the heck do you work?
You don't have to mention your employer obviously, but I get really bitter and angry when I think about how much I have to pay every week, when I work in health care, how stressful my job is........and what I do for people that most people out there couldn't be bothered with, with people who while they may not have the best insurance plan, do get it paid for pretty much 100%.

Re: Spin-off: Those with good family health plans
My dh works for a pretty decent size long island based company. He is a software engineer and they do not offer medical to all employees. He is lucky. Downside, it's Empire bcbs and it sucks balls.
I was in the hospital in oct for 23 hours. The bills I am getting are out of control. It has to be close to 11,000 that they are NOT covering. So, I think it's nice not to have to pay for medical, but being offered such a shiitty plan isn't so great.

DH works for NYC Sanitation and doesn't pay anything for his health plan. We're lucky because my job doesn't offer me health insurance!

Re: Spin-off: Those with good family health plans
We used to have great coverage, DH worked for the insurance company and we paid about $15 a month for the family plan and the coverage was excellent. However, the job was awful, he was under so much stress he started to get sick all of the time so he decided to leave.
Now he is happy at work, which is awesome, but the new insurance isn't nearly what we had before.

Re: Spin-off: Those with good family health plans
my DH's union used to have great coverage.
now aside from out copay we pay 10% of everything, and in some cases it is 15%....which adds up fast with a family of 5. My twins are 13 months old and I am STILL playing off their NICU bills!

Ditto
DH works for nypd and in reality our coverage is free, and we pay something like $10 a month for prescription drug coverage.

Re: Spin-off: Those with good family health plans
DH is a teacher at a public district in NJ.
We don't pay towards our premiums, can go to any doc within network without referral, $10 copays for everything. we have out of network too for a copay if we need.
Plus because I don't elect coverage from my employer they give me a $3,000 allowance towards copays and prescriptions. So we really don't pay anything at all.
My employer's plan is an HMO with $20 copays/$30 for specialists and premiums of about $500 per month I think.

Re: Spin-off: Those with good family health plans
I work for a hospital and DH works for a non profit serving MR/DD population.
Coverage isn't top of the line but I paid nothing out of pocket when I had DS (only a couple of co-pays)

A small human services not-for-profit agency. Trade off for not getting "for profit" pay = great benefits (including time off policy and schedule flexibility).

Re: Spin-off: Those with good family health plans
I turn mine down, b/c they give me money to do so. But it's probably a little better than DH's since his has a small deductible.
DH's is pretty good though. He works for a large international data storage company, that started out in real estate.

Re: Spin-off: Those with good family health plans
I used to work for Penguin Group (publishers) and quit there in april. We have a choice of a few plans, but i was on United Health PPO plan which was awesome. Covered my delivery fully, no referrals, coverage for out of network up to a certain amount, etc.
I had to quit and DH'sjob offers BLue cross but to add me and my son on its an ABSURD amount of $$ per month. So he insures himself through work, I insured myself through Aetna (which is also a garbage plan but enough for the bare minimum. I cant think of having a child right now b/c it wont be covered); and DS is covered under Aetna via CHIPS (Childrens health of PA).
SO im in the same boat as you. Dh has a pretty good job but its a Very small company and not good insurance. I have to pray that my part time job offers me full time at some point in the future, or DH will have to find a job with better benefits.

Re: Spin-off: Those with good family health plans
I'm a NYC teacher so our benefits are amazing. I dont have to pay anything a week. I hate the school I'm at though and thinking of making an entire career switch. It's scary thinking about losing these benefits. I think I might first try a new school and see if that is the problem...I know we are extremely lucky to have these benefits.
