spin off to sleeping on your back
I was wondering if someone could help me out....any opinions would be appreciated!! I am 13w2d and was in a very bad car accident at 8w...i broke my left clavical bone (collar bone) and fractured my sternum, and also tore ligaments in both knees...even though its been a few weeks now, i am still VERY uncomfortable sleeping...i can ONLY sleep on my back...but then when it starts getting uncomfortable, i have to switch to my side..problem is, i was told when pregnant, NOT to sleep on the right side (i forget why) there is NO WAY POSSIBLE for me to put my weight on my left side because of my clavical bone.. i havent slept in weeks, and i end up sleeping in a chair for hours at a time during the day...this isnt fun...what do i do?!?! Am i ok on my right side or what?!?!

Re: spin off to sleeping on your back
i have been sleeping in whatever postion keeps me sleeping the longest... my dr never told me otherwise... i personally wouldn't worry about it... i think a well-rested preggie woman is much better for your baby then a cranky tired one who is getting no sleep...

Re: spin off to sleeping on your back
i think either side is better then your back. i find when i lay on my right side i have to go to the bathroom more frequently so maybe this has something to do with why they say not to lay on your right side?

Re: spin off to sleeping on your back
I'm still sleeping on my back at 16 weeks. Any other position is terrible for me because of my sciatica . My OB told me that I'll know when it's time to stop sleeping on my back, because I'll get short of breath and feel things starting to go numb.

Re: spin off to sleeping on your back
Any side is better than your back....I don't think that sleeping on your back is that much of a problem right now though...it's much later into the 2nd trimester that I was told no more back sleeping!

Re: spin off to sleeping on your back
I actually go back and forth between my left and right side all night. Here is a link about side sleeping: http://www.babycenter.com/404_whats-the-best-sleep-position-during-pregnancy_7608.bc

Re: spin off to sleeping on your back
I sleep on both sides and find myself on my back a lot and I'm 19 weeks...I haven't experienced shortness of breath yet either. I worry about it all the time because of what I've read on hear too.

Re: spin off to sleeping on your back
I sleep on both sides - if you could only sleep on oneside all night you would be mighty uncomfortable all night. Regarding sleeping on your back if you feel alot of pressure from baby maybe prop your head up with some more pillows.
Get better soon

Re: spin off to sleeping on your back
OMG, glad you and the baby were ok though, dispite what you are going through now, ouch!
I sleep on my left side mostly but sometimes sleep on my stomach (halfway) or on my right. My Dr never told me how to sleep , he didnt seem to care how I slept
So - did you Dr actually tell you not to sleep on your right side? I would def discuss with him.
