Spin-off: What's the one food you CAN NOT cook?
Hello, my name is Nora and I can not cook eggs.
I consider myself a decent cook - make a good thanksgiving dinner - can not make an egg.
Takes me 2-3 tries. I either undercook it or overcook it and it sticks.
I use pam, butter, good pots - nothing works.
I got a microwave egg cooker and its okay except its hard to clean so now I just take a glass coffee mug with a teaspoon of water and start zapping them. DS likes them so that's all I care about. Hopefully by time he decides he doesn't like them, his father can teach him how to make his own eggs.

My mom and I CANNOT make perfect roasted potatoes for some reason. Seems so easy. Always come out just blah or like crap!

chicken. I keep trying but it usually tastes awful. every once in a while I'll try a decent recipe but it's short lived and it goes back to sucking.

I get frozen sauce from my mom and MIL and it is SO good, and it just seems so MESSY. . .  I have failed my ancestors.

I was really nervous about making sauce bc my mother is known for her sauce so it was a lot to live up to...
I finally did and it tastes just like hers (well practically.... )

Pies. I suck at pie making. I always mess up the crusts.. too thin, too thick, torn, tasteless, etc.. I even mess up the ready made pie crusts. Not sure how I manage that feat.. but I do. The filling always tastes good.. but the crust looks horrible and tastes worse.
Ironically.. I can make a mean savory tart and have little problems with the crust. it's a mystery.

Let's see... is there enough room on here for the list I have:
pancakes
omlette
never attempted sauce
not good at frying anything
messed up on choc chip cookies once
can't grill
there's plenty more, but I don't know b/c I haven't attempted to ruin them yet. LOL

 I can't believe you said that. One time in junior high my friend and i made cookies from scratch - we had the wet ingredients & the dry ingredients but we never mixed them - only cooked the wet ingredients.
They didn't turn out so good.

Honestly, I don't worry about the ratio when I make rice. I fill the pot up about half way with water and put in the desired amount of rice. When it's done you just strain out the excess water. It always comes great!

That's hysterical!! I was always nervous to try to duplicate my mom's recipe or my aunt's from Italy...guess what...everyone, including my mom LIKE MINE BETTER!!!
Try it..you never know!

The trick with both of these is to wait longer than you think you have to. Pancakes should be flipped when you see small bubbles all over the surface. Eggs should be flipped when you see the top is almost cooked
