Spinning

I'm dying to try it- but I'm terrified! It looks so intense and there never seems to be any "newbies" walking into the class.

It's so intimidating with the lights off and the music blasting...

Talk me into taking the plunge. . .

I guess I should say that I'm fairly new to the gym and overweight, in case that has any bearing...

Re: Spinning

Don't be intimidated. Everyone has a first time.... and it wasn't the best. It's going to be rough. But if you can get through the 1st 3-5 classes I guarantee you'll love it. You will be sore, your butt and "goodies" are going to hurt. But I PROMISE you it gets better and easier.

Most IMPORTANT... go to the class at least 15 minutes early, introduce yourself to the instructor and tell them you've never done it before. That way they will pay attention to you and your needs. They will help you set up the bike properly and show you the right way to ride, hand positions, etc.

Being an instructor, it's very important to know who your 1st timers are. If you don't let us know it's your first time we assume you can do this and you may end up getting hurt. NOT good. We like to take the time to make you feel comfortable and we want you to come back to the class. Proper set up with the bike is key as well, so we like to be able to set you up the right way.

Don't be nervous, you go at your own pace and do what you can. Never try to "keep up" with everyone in the room ;)

Re: Spinning

I'm likely the most un-athletic person alive.
But, I'm trying! And I've tried spinning...I love it!
When I first went, I was terrified....but the instructor knew it was my first time, she helped me set up my bike....and I just did what I could. I wasn't able to stand up on the bike at first, so I didn't.
Honestly, I didn't do much more than just sit on the bike and pedal for an hour.....but I stuck it out for the hour, and each time I went back, I got stronger and was able to do more. So it does get easier! And less scary!

Re: Spinning

Do it! Every spin class I have been to, the instructor has always asked "is anyone new to spinning?" and they will teach you what you need to know before the class starts.

Make sure you have plenty of water and be prepared to sweat!
