I get 21 sick days per year, and so far I used 4. 2 were when my mother was in the hospital so those I used for family sick (same pool of days). 2 others were for a cold that felt like the flu.

This year is the first year I have used all my sick days...but I had a huge amount of problems this year.
Usually, I use 1 or 2 days a year - I work in a small dept that suffers if one of us doesn't come in.

I go with the theory that if you are contageous STAY HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I go with the same theory. And if you are getting a cold or seomthing go to the doctor so you don't infect other people at work, cuz you know a tiny little cold will turn out to be a big problem a few days later.

I really try not to call in sick. I get terrible headaches and unlike most people who feel them coming, I never know until I have one... I often leave in the middle of the day.

Only when I'm actually really sick. I have plenty of flexibility and vacation / personal days when I need a mental health day.

At the job I have now, sick days and vacation days are one and the same. It's all "personal time off," and we have only so much per year.
I want to save up as many days off as possible so I can enjoy them as vacation time, so you better believe I'm in really bad condition if I call in sick to work.

me too. I only called in sick once this school year, b/c one my students was out for two days with strep and my throat was bothering me, So i stayed home to go to the Dr., just in case.
