Re: Spinoff - to those who don't qualify for the rebate
I'm not upset about it, but extra cash is always nice no matter what your paycheck is!

I wouldn't say miffed. It annoys me to no end that COL isn't included in the calculations, so a family making $200,000 in Omaha probably isn't struggling as much as the same family would on Long Island.
The whole thing is stupid, it's not going to stimulate the economy enough to make a difference. That's what pizzes me off about the whole thing.

Re: Spinoff - to those who don't qualify for the rebate
a little...but in reality, it makes sense that they cut it off somewhere. I just think that they need to take into account cost of living in certain areas and realize that if you make $175,000 living on long island, you could still use the money!

Re: Spinoff - to those who don't qualify for the rebate
We did qualify, but only because we had a baby and we're getting less than $200.
I think it is fair. If I make more income, I don't automatically think I shouldn't pay more in taxes, it's HOW they spend my tax $$ that bothers me. I think this whole plan is stupid and I don't think the country can afford it - aren't we still in a deficit? Maybe I really don't understand the whole thing....

When I first heard, I was miffed.
Then - somewhere I read - it is sort of an "advance" on next year's tax return so I felt a little better - it's not like people are getting $$ with nothing in return...
It's a tax break that was supposed to go into effect in 2009 that is taking effect in 2008.
If you weren't going to get it in 2008 because you make too much money, you aren't getting it in 2009 either.
And that's exactly why it doesn't bother me one iota.

I was a bit at first.
It's not like DH and I are millionaires. Not even remotely close. And we pay taxes just like everyone else does - why shouldn't we be entitled to the same rebate?
I agree with this. I am a bit jealous of everyone that gets one!
