I have a seperate account for my former students and I am friends with my former teachers. Honestly if you are a decent person I do not see anything wrong with it at all.
I teach middle school and I get kids who need recommendations for jobs/college/special programs and they request me to talk to me aobut it and usually delete me after that. I mean, it's really not too cool to be "friends" with y our teacher.
Or they get stuck on an assignment and want help. For examle when one of my favorite young ladies had a paper due on Lord of the Flies and kept me "chatting" until almost midnight to help her understand the novel better.
And finally, some who (and this unfortunately is very true where I teach) have never had somebody care so much about them or their education. The kids who you really impacted. They look at you like family and want to stay in touch. I teach in a slightly rough school in Queens. Most of my kids come from broken homes. Every year I try to promise myself that I am not going to too close to my kids. Every year I say they will just be my students this year. Every year I break that promise. When my kids graduate it breaks my heart. I cry at graduation because I'm so proud of them and because I MISS them the following year.
Not all people are bad or looking to have inappropriate relationships with kids. Some of us just really love our students.
Lastly, tHey never see my personal page because I have it under a different name. So they don't see my business. And even if they did, my business isn't all that exciting. I lead a very simple life. I do not drink, smoke, or partake in any other activities that would be inappropriate. The most they'd learn is how far my training run was this weekend, lol

i graduated in 99 im not friends with any teachers on fb but only because i havent found any of them I dont find it weird as an adult to be friends with former teachers yes as a student and child that is inappropriate but as adults its fine

I am friends with one, my first grade teacher. Whom I loved Although before every post I make, i think of her, so I never curse or get too vulgar

I'm on a FB messageboard for my town & find it odd that one of the teachers actively posts & gives info on other teachers. Then again, he was "friend" teacher.
Honestly I look at it & think "Go find friends your own age."
Are his initials RK? b/c I think the same.
I'm not friends with my former teachers although one contacted me on classmates years ago to chat - she moved to FL.
I am FBF with 4 former students. A former student was murdered and another died and I caught up with it that way.

I went to the same HS and who is RK? I had to ask!!!! I am friends with former teacher JZ and I am on the "You know you are from Greenlawn if..." board. I do not post a lot because most of the active people graduated in the 70s and I graduated in the 80s & didn't know all of them.

One from HS. I never had her as a teacher, she was just my homeroom teacher and moderator of a club I was part of.

One but she is like family to me. She is my sisters long time bff's mom and my dads former girlfriend. She was all of these things before she was my 12 grade Govt teacher.

Absolutely. I haven't looked for my elementary teachers, as for Hs, yes..of course! Most people from my HS are friends with old teachers and our former principle. I see no reason why since my HS was 7 years and it was a tight community feel at that time.
I'd find it weird if I wasn't.

Yes! I am friends with a few of my music teachers and they were awesome! I actually still see one of them for dinner once or twice a year. Everyone goes to visit him, we all love him so much. And he is not a pedo or anything weird. Just very passionate about music and bonded with the students who felt the same way.

I am FB friends with ONE teacher - my second grade teacher - whose class I was in in the 1976-77 school year. 30+ years, Id say is safe. I was in her very first class. Now we are peers.
As for myself, I teach special education in a psychiatric setting. My current and former students have severe emotional disabilities and many are medicated. It would be very poor judgment for me to have any relationships with current or former students via social networking or otherwise. I have been requested. I have refused and blocked. I simply do not want current or former students to have any access to my personal life.

Yes, one grammar school teacher. She was a wonderful teacher and I am glad that someone "suggested" we be friends on FB. She even organized a GTG for her former students and parents! Was so mad I couldnt make it.
