Spinoff: Have you ever been tested?
Just curious since the question came up. How many of you have ever gotten tested?
eta. OTHER THAN GIVING BLOOD or LIFE INS.
Actually gone on your own & specifically asked for the test.

Yes, every time I go to gyn, they take blood. They have a lab in the same building.

The first time, many years ago, I went with a friend for moral support and wound up getting tested myself too.
Now, DH and I have to get tested every year at the RE's office.

When they did my routine blood work after I found out I was preg. they asked if I wanted it done... so I said why not- ive got 2 have blood taken either way...
Had it not come up this way- I prob wouldnt of gone on my own, and had it done...

I never have on my own, but I know I am screened at the beginning of my pregnancies for HIV.

I have. I always got tested at my annual gyno visit. I was never afraid to get tested since I hadn't participated in high risk activities.

I have. Each year during my annual exam I ask for it. I have only been with DH, however, I have unprotected sex with him. A gyno I went to before I was married asked me if I wanted to be tested, I very confidently said no, I have no need to. I am only with my FH. She looked at me sadly, and at that point I felt so naive. She said she has seen many things, and would never rule out anything. Convinced me.

Before I was married my gyn tested me annually for a variety of STDs, including HIV/AIDS. I'd forgotten that I signed something for it when I started seeing him, I never had any reason to suspect I needed the tests, but figured why not. When I got married he stopped doing them and told me that if I ever suspected I needed them to let him know.

Was tested when we started TTC. It was mandatory that DH and I both get tested.
I was also tested 9 years ago and 5 years ago when I was PG. Its NY state law to be tested when PG or they will test your baby instead if you refuse.

Yes, when I found out I was Pregnant. I had given blood twice before though and knew that I wasn't HIV positive.

I answered no, but I totally forgot about this.
Yes they asked me if I'd consent to the test in the beginning of my pregnancy. The dr actually said I could say no of course, but if I did the baby would be tested at birth - so I figured I'd take one more test so that he'd have one less.

When DH and I first started dating we went together and both got tested. Since then, we've given blood and had yearly physicals, but that was the only time I went to the Dr. specifically to be tested for HIV.

yes, when you get PG it is part of the bloodwork, also when we did IVF, it was a mandated test we had to take
