Well, I majored in English so I guess that is relevant to any career in a way.

I feel the same way about my communication degree. While not directly relevant to my job working with computers, I am better able to communicate than any of the other programmers. My master's is not relevant to what I am doing, but a master's was required for the doctoral program I am in, so I did the only program I could do for free part-time at night. My doctoral program is directly related to what I do.

Re: Spinoff: Is your BA relevant to your current job?

College isn't technical school- it's to train your mind, not really train you to DO something..

I have a double degree in History & Political Science...
and I don't use the facts of these degrees every day- (like Henry VIII wives, etc) I do use the methodology I used to acquire those facts (research, etc)

UGH...if I had my BA, no, it wouldn't be relevant since I need a graduate gemologist degree. BUT I need my BA to make more $$. I can't wait to finish school! Chat Icon

oooh, my friend is getting her GG. I have never known anyone else going for that.

Mine is sorta related. I majored in English Literature & minored in Communication & Media Studies.

I work in marketing for a publishing company.
I needed to have a BA to get this job & English looked good, but the things I learned ( mostly how to analyze literature) don't really have any bearing on my job. A business degree would probably be more helpful at this point, but it wouldn't have gotten me the job. Chat Icon

My BA is in English with a writing concentration, and now I teach English and reading, so it's connected.

No. My BA is in French and I work in corporate finance. So I went back to school for my MBA in Finance.
