spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
At work all the shades are drawn, and most of the lights are off. We still get enough natural sunlight to work, though. Darn it!
Side note, it irks the hell out of me that with the need to conserve energy, I passed stores in the city BLASTING the AC- with the doors wide open. ***, do they think they can cool the whole city this way?

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
Our lobby has no lights on and like yours our shades are down.
However, I walked by the Cingular store yesterday at 5:30 on 5th Avenue and 47th and their AC was BLASTING with the door open! People were standing in front of the open door cooling off!

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
The lights are off in the elevator lobbies and some lights are turned down overhead and in reception. But the AC is on like 50 degrees ... BRRRRRRR.

Yep. Yesterday one of our major tenants shut off 75% of their lights.

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
Not at all! Although I would love if they turned some of the lights off - my eyes wouldn't bleed as much as they do everyday from the blazing fluorescent lights.

Nope. But I'm pretty sure we close early if LIPA asks us too. Not sure exactly what the protocol is but because we are a government agency we "help out" when there are issues like this. It's happened before.

Nope! Lights on, shades open, AC blasting (but not cool air, still 90 in the office)

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
My building raises the temp of the ac in the afternoon to about 75-78 degrees. It gets warm in here but still tolerable. They have the lights off in the lobby and all of the shades are drawn.

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
Yup - we received a memo on Tuesday and since then the lights in the lobby are almost all off (an some are dimmed for safety reasons), offices on the exterior of the building with windows have their lights off, reception areas have lights off and tvs off, and at all the cubicles only the ceiling lights are on. No desk lights.

Lucky! I wish ConEd would ask my job to shut down.

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
I am surprised actually that this is not happening, since Bloomberg has declared an electrical emergency for the NYC region. Not sure what that means, but you'd think they'd mandate usage by large buildings & businesses.

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
I shut off all the lights and turne the thermostat up. My building is quite large so the lobby is fully lit (and freezing - tourists are standing in it to cool off) but the hallway lights are off.
I'm REALLY annoyed at the shops with the a/c on full blast and open doors.

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
Our lobby has no lights and all of the elevators are not in use. We received a memo to conserve energy and any equipment that is not being used, to be powered off. The other Corporate Office in 70th Street is without power and everyone, for the most part, was sent home.

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
Small office but we are keeping all lights off in any room we are not using..which we used to keep on at all times. We are not pumping the ac...trying to keep it comfortable.

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
the heat finally broke here... it's about 83 degrees. So we were able to open the blinds and turn on the lights today. I hated working in the dark.

Yeah, I don't think it's ever going to happen again though since the black out and them fixing that problem. I think now it's only if there are brown out conditions.

Re: spinoff: Is your job conserving energy?
Yes, our lobby has no lights and the shades are down. The AC is not turned up as much as it normally is. The tempature in here is comfortable, usually it's freezing at all times and I need to wear a sweater.
