Me too.
Though I left dishes in the sink last night. I got too lazy  But I think I'll get even super lazy and just put everything in the dishwasher

I would not say I am super obsessed but there are certain things that MUST be done everyday or else I will go stir crazy:
1) Dishes MUST be done & nothing left in the sink
2) Coats MUST be hung in the closet & not on the banister
3) Newspapers MUST go in the recycle bin everyday
4) All mail MUST be distributed to the right place & garbage mail in the garbage
5) The garbage MUST be taken out every night
When it comes to dusting, the bathrooms & laundry, it is all done at least once a week. If the bathroom starts to annoy me, I will make it a point to clean it that night.
I think one of the highest compliments I got was from my FIL who said "you truly like to keep an immpecable house" I guess it was the way my mom raised me!

My DH is a little OCD with the house. He's not as bad about it as when we were first married (he would get on me about every little thing) but we are still super neat. I started really being neat to keep him happy, but now I just love coming home and knowing everything is in its place. But it is a huge help that I am not cleaning up after him, we keep it neat together.

I agree with you Rachel. our place is far from spotless, but we do a good job of keeping a small space neat. sure there are surfaces covered in magazines and some clutter, but we don't live like pigs. so my kitchen floor isn't the cleanest of floors, big whoop!
the one thing that I HATE is dust! and around here you have to do it once a week  why is LI SO DUSTY?????

I'm with you Rach. WE don't live in squalor, but I don't rush home to clean and cook. When I have a husband that is perfectly capable of doing the same. WE clean and dust here and there, but I don't freak out over one dust bunny.

I have to have my apartment clean, but I don't think I am THAT neurotic about it. We do a heavy cleaning once a week, spot clean in between. We don't make a huge mess and we live in a 1br apartment.

I could have written this post word for word. I find it completely calming to have a clean house. However, I must add that working only part time and having one child in school FT and the other in pre K 4 days a week certainly helps.

I always remember what my grandma told me...You get to what you can get to....otherwise you go crazy. In other words, take care of what you can and the rest can always be done later. Don't go crazy over it.

This is me, too. My DH can't understand this but it makes me anxious when the house isn't clean.

I try and do a little cleaning each day - a bathroom one day, the other bathroom the next day. It takes away from my relaxation time but in mind I cant relax if things are dirty and very cluttered. I dont like waiting till the weekend to then have to devote several hours to cleaning. I cant afford a regular cleaning lady but once every 3 months or so I feel it is worth the money.

I am kind of like that....my defense is that if someone pops over unexpected, I really don't want to be embarrassed by our mess. I "tidy" up day to day but I do my major cleaning on Saturdays

Because of my anxiety. I have issues in that, I think, if my house is clean and organized, my life will be too-like nothing bad will happen. I know its not true, but its my anxiety issues.

I blame my mom, she has always been obsessive with a clean house. I have taken that with me. I have everything in its place and like that. I hate un-announced people for that reasonn, God forbid someone should drop by and I have a dirty ashtray I am mortified. Its a shickness. I dont want people to come here and say "Eww Jenns a slob" Its all in my head, I mean you could lick my bowl and be fine. So its def me. But I have to say as neat as my apartment is, dont open a closet 'cause you could get hurt from the mound of crap in them.
ETA: Wehn we were growing up, my mom would ground us if we left a spoon in the sink..."because it shouldnt be there, it should be cleaned and put away" I have taken this with me also.

I agree with you 100%. When I saw your post on the original thread, I wanted to cheer! I feel better when the house is clean, but there are days it just IS NOT a priority. I will leave dishes in the sink sometimes. My dining room able is ALWAYS cluttered. If that isn't then my coffee table is. I try to keep the carpet vaccuumed & the floors swept, but sometimes, other things, like having a life is more important to me.
I totally agree! I marvel at the people that talk about how they clean everyday.
After living in a small apartment for many years I do try to keep the clutter to a minimum or at least keep it contained to one spot. It doesn't help having a DH who could care less about messiness!

I have gotten more and more like my Mother as I get older, and my Mother is a NEAT FREAK. She is really bad. She refers to everything as "filthy" even if there is just a little dust somewhere. While I consider myself to be pretty clean I sometimes get very annoyed with her and think to myself "WHO CARES", b/c really...in the big scheme of things, who really does care? It's a control thing, really...the world is not going to stop if the house doesn't get cleaned.

Day to day it doesn't concern me.
It does make me crazy on some days though when it's gotten to be too much.
The problem is when it gets out of hand then it takes soooo long to clean.
I agree totally. I'd rather keep everything somewhat organized/cleaned, so I don't spend my weekend cleaning my 1 bedroom apt.

I cannot help it. It actually makes me feel more relaxed to know that my apartment is clean and organized - I think that my mother's OCD about cleaning had an effect on me in that respect.

Me too. I actually enjoy cleaning. I turn on my music and my candles and I can sort of lose myself in it. I've been a neat freak since I was a little kid. Must be my German Grandmother's genetics in me You could eat off her floors

I look at my home as a reflection of myself. I clean every day because I don't like it any other way. I don't work outside the home, so, I consider this my "job" and I take great pride in how I do it. When you walk in my home, you would never know I have three dogs and my grandson is here every day. I have always been this way and, probably, always will be.

I can't really answer why people are like this, since I'm not one of them.
My house is clean....maybe not spotless....maybe you will find a dust bunny somewhere....maybe you will find a crumb on the counter....and you may even find a dirty dish in the sink.
If it offends you, than don't stop by, I'm OK with that. Just because it's not spotless doesn't mean I'm dirty.

I didn't grow up in an obsessively clean house. There was always clutter, and a lot of major cleaning was done when company was coming. I seem to be the same way now. However, the clutter that accumulates in our little 1-bedroom apartment drives me nuts. It makes cleaning so much more time-consuming! I like it best when it's neat, but somehow, it never stays that way. I like to say that our apartment looks "lived-in."
