Spinoff LIPA question
What was your last LIPA bill
And what kinda home do you live in?
I have 2 bdrm 1000 sq foot apt and paid $119
*In the summer I pay close to $250

We pay $299 a month on budget for a 4 bed, 2 bath expanded cape ... however ... we have an electric dryer, two frig's, large freezer, etc. which run all the time.

Mine was $550 for a 4000 sq foot house. I know our house is big but there are only two of us living here and we have gas everything (heat, dryer, stove, oven, hot water heater). I have no clue why all of a sudden our electric is so high. I called LIPA and they are supposed to send someone out to check our meter. Something is very wrong though.

my MIL lives in OH and the highest electric bill she EVER had on her 2200 sq foot condo was $80. and she runs the CAC ALL spring and summer long!

Yes but out of NY, the water prices are very high so everything evens out. My parents were paying $50/month in FL for water while I was paying $7/month.

our first bill was $196
then our second bill was $-13
phew! the first bill was estimated, boy were they wrong!
we has a gas stove and dryer and heat, so our bill should be lower, but our windows are OLD.
eta: we have a high ranch - maybe 1800 sq. ft.?

I wouldn't say that higher water would even it out. my MIL is always hot, she's on a lot of meds and has her CAC on for 1/2 a year or more. her bill here would probably be $100's a month.
utilities are through the roof in this area. a few bucks more for water doesn't even it out at all.

True but I think it really depend on how much you conserve energy. I drive past houses at night that all the lights are on and you know that someone is not in every room. Lighting is really nice on the outside of the house and hi-hats but that runs up the bills as does pools and jacuzzis. My house is small enough that my 2 ac's cool down the whole house and my bills only went up $1/month for the whole summer. We don't run the ac's 24 hrs./day. There is no need to run them when you are not home.
