Spinoff to banning smoking in public places

What are your thoughts about Atlantic City going totally smoke free in all casinos? Unless, they have a "smokers lounge" that has no gaming in it, and not monitored by employees. (kind of like they have in airports--I have seen it in Atlanta)

I am not a smoker, but I think its really going to drive down revenues for all casinos...(and not just because we are in a bad economy) Smoking/Drinking/Gambling all go hand in hand I think.

I thought a better idea would be for them to close off an area for smokers and an area for non smokers---divided by doors/walls/etc.

Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun might see an increase of revenue b/c smoking is allowed there..they have no smoking casinos in them, but its not outlawed at all, and I beleive its governed by the reservations, so I doubt they will ever rule to ban smoking.

Re: Spinoff to banning smoking in public places

i am not a smoker but i feel like all this banning of smoking is starting to go a little too far, yes we know it is bad for you and people should quit but some still do it, so if gov't feels its so bad that they have to ban it all over the place maybe they should just make it illegal -- which i know they will never do its too much of a money making industry

Re: Spinoff to banning smoking in public places

Well there are also a lot of people who would like to gamble but won't because of the smoke.

People thought bars would close after the smoking ban. They did not.

There are no bans on taking a break and take a smoke outside.

I honestly had to leave a blackjack table in AC because a smoker sat next to me and decided to blow the smoke in my face. I cought, he did not care. DH asked him to move his cigarette to the other side, he did for 3 seconds. That afternoon, the casino did not make more money. It was even. He came, I left.

I generally don't go into casinos for very long because of the smoking, but I think the hard core gamblers will go regardless.

Now that I think of it, every one I know that is a big gambler is a smoker, hmmmm. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to banning smoking in public places

i guess i'm a minority. i'm not a full time smoker but i like one every now and then socially. i really enjoyed my drink with a cigarette while on a slot machine. its a rare thing now to have. they have made smoking gambling sections really small in the casinos but after october all will be gone!!
i guess what has to be done is done but i will miss it when i go.
