Spinoff to Comfort Foods: Top 10 "Luxury" Foods
What foods do you love.. but consider kind of a luxury either because they cost a lot, take a long time to make or are hard to find?
ETA: Also things that are just so laden with calories you can't possibly eat them more than maybe once a year!

Re: Spinoff to Comfort Foods: Top 10 "Luxury" Foods
Kasteel Rouge beer...it's both hard to find and a bit on the pricy side. It's a German cherry-infused beer.
Certain kinds of cheeses...not necessarily hard to find, because this is NYC, but there are some that are so expensive!
Really, really good quality chocolate. Specifially dark. I go out of my way to Neuhaus a few times a year to get my fix.
Not hard to find, but expensive: saffron. While I'm at it, vanilla beans.
ETA: one that takes a long time to make (a few days) would be homemade pickles...but the end result means that you have delicious, crisp pickles that last you awhile!

Re: Spinoff to Comfort Foods: Top 10 "Luxury" Foods
Lobster & filet mignon Sushi (we eat A LOT) when we go Real Italian pastries (I'm in NC now) Onion bagel with cream cheese/lox spread (again I'm in NC) baked Brie I have 3 restaurants I LOVE, but we easily spend $150-$200!
ETA: Can I also consider luxury anything "real" (not low fat) good cheese, bread, etc.

I freaking love that stuff! It's Belgian though, not German. The Germans have a beer purity law (leave it to the Germans to make a law for this) and the addition of the ingredients from kasteel rouge wouldn't be allowed. I'll be in Belgium the end of the month. Bringing an extra suitcase just to bring this stuff back with me.
Luxury foods for me: Short ribs. Really hard to find here and I have to special order them and wait 2 weeks for them.
Good beef. I can't find a lot of cuts here. It's also expensive.
Lobster, clams, crab. Lobster is so expensive here. Clams I see maybe once a month. I have yet to see crab. Seafood in general is pretty expensive here.
Good peanut butter. Just isn't here.
