Re: Spinoff to CoSleeping (on Parenting)

I was a BRILLIANT parent with all the answers and had ALL these ideas about the right and wrong things to do with babies, toddlers, and children.....

Then I actually became a parent.

I found out that my ideas about parenthood were NOT EVEN CLOSE to what its actually like, and that my pre-baby self was NOT a brilliant parent Chat Icon

To answer the question, my 3 year old ends up in my bed EVERY night. He starts out in his bed.

And the funny thing is... I LOVE it.

I was against it and still am. Only because I am pertrified that my Dh would roll over and suffocate DD or I would. When she gets older and larger then maybe on a night she is sick or has a nightmare...but until than I am most comfortable with her in the crib.

My DD hated sleeping in our bed and still does- even when she is sick so its never been an option. This girl likes her spaceChat Icon

I was against it pre baby because I was scared it would be a hard habit to break. I did end up doing it for a few weeks only because Rylan was so colicky and I did whatever it took to get some sleep. I no longer do it now though...not even for naps.

I was adamant about not co-sleeping for alot of the reasons why that article says BUT I had my own reasons as well. To me, our bed is for me and DH to sleep in. Mommy and Daddy don't mind having the kids in it with us inthe morning to watch some tv or snuggle in, but it's for us only. Once I had the kids, I was still very adamantly against it and never went back on my word on that stance.

ITA-IMO my bed is for my DH and I and maybe a SICK child once in a while who needs some comforting. Not on a regular basis. I want my love life and my marriage to remain strong and I just don't see how you can do that with a baby in bed with you??

True for some their marraige would suffer. For us we never were "bed" people when it came to our love lifeChat Icon but to be honest if a marraige fails due to a couple's child being in their bed I think there were deeper problems to begin with.

Yes... I totally agree! And... Melijane... many moms have felt the same way you do before baby then when you lay eye on your little bundle... everything changes and things you said prebaby go out the window!Chat Icon

It wasn't our policy, but on particularly bad nights, we woudl let her sleep with us. We still do occassionaly. However, we rarely get any sleep since she is so active. Chat Icon

Same here

We vowed we would never - but when you aren't getting any sleep for a week at a time, you have to do what you have to do. Chat Icon

Exactly - that's where we are now!
