Spinoff to dads taking kids out alone...
On Saturday we went out to lunch and there was a dad at another table with his daughter, maybe 8 or 9 years old. I don't know why I even noticed them, but the first thing that went through my mind for some reason was "Must be his weekend to have his daughter"... i.e. assuming he was divorced. I don't know why I made that assumption-- my own DH takes the kids out all the time, I wonder if people ever think that about him?
I just thought it was funny how on the one hand, I totally think dads should take the kids out alone and I love getting a break myself, but then when I see such a situation at a restaurant, especially with older children for some reason, I immediately think "custody weekend". Guess I'm just as bad as the people who make the stupid comments!

Re: Spinoff to dads taking kids out alone...
guilty...i feel like i see it all the time.
When we first moved down here, we lived in apts. I swear the pool on weekends were full of divorced dads and their kids. Never saw a mother, never saw these kids during the week.
Now, I live in a townhouse in an affluent neighborhood. My neighbor is a divorced dad who lives here since his wife and kids kept the big house down the street. So I am thinking this is who lives in a lot of the townhouses around me...same pool scene last summer as apts.
Then there is just the dads at the park on the weekends that are funny. Kids sort of don't listen, blackberry out the whole time...bribing them to leave with a trip to the pizza place and a movie.
I like dads at the pool and park. I find them so much friendlier then moms.
