Re: Spinoff to Did you breastfeed... anyone get..."You're STILL BREASTFEEDING???"
I am a strong believer in bfing and bf my son for one year and intend to do the same for my daughter who is now 6 months. I never got any neg comments. Lucky me.
My friend breastfed her babies well passed two yrs. I have only read that bfing is beneficial until 1 yr, and provides little benefit after that. Where do I find reliable info about this, because honestly I thought my friend was continuing too long.
Now, I am also a strong believer that being a mom is so hard and people have some nerve for commenting on how we feed our children, whether it be with fornula or short term or long term bfing.

Re: Spinoff to Did you breastfeed... anyone get..."You're STILL BREASTFEEDING???"
12.5 months here and I am proud of it!! I agree that World Health Organization recommends it up to 2 years old. DD drinks whole milk, but why should I deny her the antibodies AND the closeness with me.
It doesn't interfere with my intimate life. She doesn't do it all the time.
Oh yeah, and I am not earthy either.
I don't slam formula feeders (though I do admit I wish more people would just try it). I wish people would treat me as nicely.

Re: Spinoff to Did you breastfeed... anyone get..."You're STILL BREASTFEEDING???"
Someone was talking about it today and I felt kinda odd saying yes when she asked me if I still BF.
But whatever, if you go on BFing boards, you feel like 14 months is not that long...
No matter what you do as a parent, you can find supporters and you can find people who think you're nuts...

My kids are 5 1/2, 3 and 1 and I have been breastfeeding for 5 1/2 years. Try that one on for size!! (the only break I had was 4 months when pregnant with Lucas)

Now, if you DC was 18 or 19 months, that would be another story. Just my opinion, but when the kid can crawl on your lap, and lift your shirt, its time to stop.
What exactly is wrong with that? The WHO recommends breastfeeding until at least 2 years old.
Please do some more research on the benefits of extended breastfeeding. I think you'll find there's a lot you don't know.
Actually, I am not knocking bfing at all. I EBF my DD and planned on doing so with my DS until I got PG again and my supply couldn't keep up.
And once again, I clearly said "just my opinion".... I am allowed to have one right?

Re: Spinoff to Did you breastfeed... anyone get..."You're STILL BREASTFEEDING???"
Are people nuts!?!?! I would have LOVED to BF!!! DD refused! I was so sad. I think it's awesome that some women BF that long. When DC is like 5, then maybe it should stop, lol.
People should just keep their opinions to themselves.

9 months strong, bfing twins!!
people are always shocked that you can nurse twins. but it's usually a positive shock, not really negative comments. let's see what happens when i'm nursing twin toddlers!!

Re: Spinoff to Did you breastfeed... anyone get..."You're STILL BREASTFEEDING???"
I personally think its a wonderful thing. I plan on trying it out and I really hope that it works out for me and DD together. Everyone keeps on saying why bother but I feel like its much healthier for both of us and if I can do it why not.

Re: Spinoff to Did you breastfeed... anyone get..."You're STILL BREASTFEEDING???"
Good for you - it's really suggested up to at least a year anyway. It's a personal descision and sometimes people aren't 100% comfortable with breastfeeding as it is.
Some things bother other people more than they bother me.

You're allowed to have an opinion, but when you say things like "when they can crawl and lift your shirt you should stop" you are reinforcing an ignorant opinion that those of us who breastfeed beyond a year have to deal with.
It may be your opinion, but it is not backed by facts, which is why I suggested looking into the benefits of breastfeeding beyond a year.
