yep and 411 for super SUPER important (usually reserved for only the most urgent teenage drama!!
what was your "code"? ya know how people knew it was you? mine was 15
OMG we were just talking about our "codes" the other day....mine was the last few #'s of my home phone # at the time
I didn't get a cell phone until I was 20-something. I didn't have cable until I graduated h.s. We didn't get a computer until I was in college.

Re: Spinoff to feeling old: what items did you not have growing up, that kids today have
- TV w/remote - we had the manual one you had to turn that only went up to 50 I think. We got a remote w/TV sometime in the early 90s.
- We always had a VCR, but it was one that you had to program with tiny buttons and could only do the basic functions.
- No I-Pods, cell phones, game systems (sega/nintendo, etc), cd players - we had a portable tape deck that held one tape and a record player and that was it
- We had one computer and it was the one that used those 5x5 skinny like paper discs for programs.
- no motorized toy vehicles - like barbies car....I had a skooter that you sat in and had to wheel the plastic wheels with your feet to move.
That's all I think of...

Car seats and seat belts! In addition to everything else mentioned...I remember jumping into the front seat while my parents were driving quite a few times lol.
Also I cannot WAIT to tell my dc how I had a rotary phone and if I mis dialed how I had to hang up and start over again!

The big thing that sticks out in my mind is that when I had a report due, I hauled my butt to the library and did research. Now all they have to do is go online.

No cell phone, no computer (a typewriter, yes, a typewriter), no video games (they existed, but not many people had them), no cable when I was very young. One of my friends thought it was cool we had a push botton phone!
We have a baby now, and there are so many more toys for young children than there were when we were kids.
