Really? People are standing in lines here waiting for gas for hours.

Please keep this wonderful news to yourself. This is deeply insensitive to those in this area.

Actually, I think it is sort of interesting form an economic standpoint.

I think that it's not that there isn't demand from drivers in the NE, but since many stations are closed due to power problems, they aren't selling gas, and therefore, not taking new deliveries, so there isn't demand from those retailers to the distributers.

And there there is the problem of not being able to deliver to some areas in the NE, even if the stations are open, so the distributors do have an excess.

I wonder if when we have fully functioning stations in this area will local & national prices increase, because of increased demand in this area.

It is very difficult for people in this area right now and I am hopign we are back to naormal very soon, but I know in other areas of the country, with no mass transit and fewer economic opportunites, the gas prices have been an issue for a while, so this could be a much needed break for some people right now.

I agree. This may be good news in terms of prices once gas stations start to reopen in the tri-state area.

I agree too, i have been so curious asking my out of state friend what the prices for gas are in here area...hoping it will eventually make its way to us.

I dont think the original poster is being insensitive I think she is sharing valuable information.

ITA. And quite frankly I don't think it's appropriate for an admin/employee of this site to make snarky comments, despite the fact that you may think is an insensitive post.

Honestly though, except for the stations that jacked up their prices, I've noticed many have stayed relatively in the same $3.79-$3.89 range that they were before the storm. If all stations had shot up to over $4/gal, then I'd wonder how other states were faring.

Not sure why anyone would be offended by this post. Glad to hear gas prices are dropping. Hopefully once all the station's get their power back on, we'll see lower prices too!

This

I also live out of state and have noticed the same things as gas prices go.

On a side note.....the company my husband is a boss at and that I worked for sent 5 ambulances, 1 mechanic and his own truck, and a Disaster truck to NJ last Sunday(as in before the storm hit). 2 of those ambulances have been in Farmingdale since Monday(as the storm hit) and have been responding to 911 calls all through out the Hamptons with the fire department ever since. Our MSP troopers just sent out a caravan to help in crowd control. My point is that it's not like those of us not affected are sitting here thinking how great we're making out because of gas. Many of the people we sent are giving their personal supplies to people.

I think gas prices are around the same here in VA. Our cars take premium and it is always around $4 per gallon. I don't remember thinking it got cheaper or more expensive.
