I served my first time ever last September! I didn't get picked so I was only there 1/2 day.

Re: Spinoff to Lana's Jury Duty Post.....

Went for Grand Jury Duty in January, it's 4 weeks long, and unless you request to postpone, they said we should consider ourselves committed to them for the next 4 weeks. They randomly select names out of a raffle drum, and everyone selected MUST serve the next 4 weeks straight, and once they meet their quota, everyone else is excused that was in the raffle drum for 7 years from Grand Jury Duty. Luckily, I wasn't picked out of that drum!! Chat Icon

Yes, about 10 years ago. I was called again a little over a year ago but since I'm a SAHM with no backup day care I was excused.

I did in 2006. I was picked for the jury and after sitting around for 8 hours, they settled!Chat Icon I REALLY wanted to sit on the Jury. Everyone had already designated me as the one to read the verdict too!!! LMAO

Re: Spinoff to Lana's Jury Duty Post.....

2 times

the first time, i served on a jury. a construction worker who was injured on a site. they settled for a bunch of money when it seemed like the testimony was going the worker's way.

the other time, i didn't want to serve, so i acted like a strange personChat Icon and got out of pools, until time was up.

Re: Spinoff to Lana's Jury Duty Post.....

When I got called in NY, I was in the process of becoming a CT resident so I got out of it. I postponed my first notice in CT b/c I was going to be on my HM. The next time I got called, they had enough people so I didn't need to show up or serve. Since I didn't have to show up, I can get called again the following year.

How can they expect people to be available for 4 weeks?
My boss would freak. I'd have to work from home at night.

Re: Spinoff to Lana's Jury Duty Post.....

I did once, in Brooklyn. It was a civil case. A little girl was suing a driver b/c she (the little girl) ran out in the middle of the street, got hit by a car, and had severe damage to her legs. It was very sad for the girl, but we awarded her nothing b/c it wasn't the driver's fault. Chat Icon
