WOW! I have petro w/contract and haven't gotten that type of letter, and if that's true, we're going to shop around.

We got a flyer for a company that will do a burner check for $99. Forget paying $500 plus cost of oil! That's ridiculous!

Don't know if you paid your bill within the required 27 - 30 days after receiving it, but, oil companies have been changing contracts when people don't. It used to be that they would allow you to carry over a balance and still deliver oil at the agreed upon price. Since so many locked into contracts at low rates and misjudged the market, they've created this loophole. This is why I do C.O.D. No surprises. I'm sorry this happened. It really stinks.Chat Icon

okay here is the update...............i called and spoke to someone.......i'm still confused but basically b/c price of oil has increased dramatically......my budget payment plan has to also increase. the way that they came up with 566$ is they estimated my usage and multiplied by current price of gas.......i feel they overestimated.! so he told me 566/month is one of the many options they have......and i don't have to go with that particular plan. oh and p.s. the budget plan is actually deceiving......although i pay 165/mos if i go over the 165 we have to pay the difference at the end of the year. that was not explained to me before! whats the point of a flat rate monthly pymt????????

I would go over your contract. If you locked into a rate and there is no provision in your contract for the oil company adjusting that rate because the price of oil goes up, they can't just take it upon themselves to do so. They can't just unilaterally change a contract because the price of oil changes. They are bound by the conditions in the contract. Would they be willing to adjust your rate if the price of oil went down? My guess would be no. I would fight this all they way and make them honor their contract.
