Spinoff to the fence question: What if it's your neighbor's fence but it's falling down
and they're not replacing it. It's in the worst possible shape for still standing. It's a wood fence and one of the planks has actually come out The nice side is facing us so it's clear to me that it's their fence but it's really turning into a bit of an eyesore. I'd just replace it myself but we don't have the money but also don't feel like it's as if we can ask her to replace it either b/c that would feel very pushy. Has anyone had this happen to them before? How did you or they handle it?

I never had that happen to me but maybe you can speak to her to let her know that her fence is falling down everywhere. maybe she doesn't realize. Another option would be to go and buy another wood fence for just that section and put it up in front of theirs. You do not have to replace thier fence just install your own nice fence. This is what my parents did at my old house because they could not stand to look at the neighbors disgusting fence that was about to fall down and if it fell gods knows how long they would take to replace it and we wanted privacy. They were really disgusting people and had no care for their property. The prior resident used their fence for privacy instead of installing one themselves.
Good luck with whatever you decided.

If they take it down and leave no fence at all, are you okay with that? If not, then you are just saying that you want the neighbor to pay for a new fence and I don't think it's right to ask for that.

I would either do what previous poster said put up a fence of your own. You can ask the neighbor if they want to go 50/50 with you and replace that section of the fence.

Re: Spinoff to the fence question: What if it's your neighbor's fence but it's falling down
We had this exact situation with our neighbors stockade fence. I just went next door and asked them if I could replace some of the sections. They were literally falling down and many planks were missing. She said OK, so we did. DH did it himself and it looks 10000 times better, and our neighbor was happy because we were replacing her fence.

Re: Spinoff to the fence question: What if it's your neighbor's fence but it's falling down
Our neighbor is missing a lot of random planks, so we decided that it would be best to just install a new fence next to theirs. We're friendly with them & I get the impression that $ is tight for them, so we figured that we'd take the burden off of them & wouldn't even mention it. If they want to take theirs down after ours is up that's great, but we don't want to bring it up since there's a chance that it might be embarrassing to them...
