Spinoff To The Lohan's House: If You Suddenly Got Rich
Would you move? Would you buy a really nice/huge house in a chi chi area? Or would you stay put?
I love my block and my town. I always say that if I suddenly struck it rich I would stay put. I would upgrade the house itself - but I don't see myself going crazy. I like where I live!

I truly am torn because while I love my current neighbourhood and would love to own in the area, I also dream of living out south.

we don't own- and have no plans to buy in NY
we are moving to FL- and if we struck it rich- I would buy a waterfront home instead of one in a subdivision

As much as I love my block/area...I would move in a heartbeat to something more secluded with more land. Just not too sure where that would be.

funny you should ask this. i love the show moving up on tlc. this weekend's episode was about just that. a couple that won a bit over $600k in the PA state lotery and they went BIG on a house. spent the entire amount... actually, ran out of money and didn't get the hot tub. there was even a comment on how the fridge is empty.
that show got me thinking.
i feel the same as you. if i hit it big, i would pay off my mortgage and have my house reach it's full potential. even if it meant i might price myself out of the market. i'm not planning to leave this place.
i love my little house!! i especially love my neighborhood!

My current neighborhood, yes, for sure, plan on moving as we speak.
My next neighborhood, I probably would move too. If I was that rich, there are so many other towns I would choose in a heartbeat.

yup--would totally buy a house and move. but i'm not sure if i would go to a totally chi chi area....cause i would feel out of place--like i would be treated as nouveau riche or something.
but i would certainly want a nice home in a very upper middle class neighborhood with good schools for future kids.

It's a joke.
We'd probably buy waterfront - REAL waterfront - and he'd get his boat.
Other than that, I wouldn't want to go someplace I obviously wouldn't fit in -

Since we don't own a house right now I would definitely move!! I love the idea of the waterfront - but I am a North Shore girl. Maybe a nice house in Stony Brook or Port Jefferson

Depends on how rich I suddenly became. If we're talking hundreds of millions, yeah, I'd move. $600k, probably not. I saw that episode too! Those people were morons.

Depends on how rich.
I'd first get a house down the NJ Shore - Cape May.
Then, pay off my parents house, MIL house and buy my bro one.
Then, I'd buy a new one in my same town. We have houses from $300K up to multimillions so I could stay in the town and still have a crazy house.

I'd stay where I am, and depending on how many kids we have, maybe move to a bigger house here. If it's just me & dh and 1 or 2 kids I'd probably stay put, any more we'd prob want to move.
I would definitely get a vacation house somewhere though.

We live in Central FL. I would move in a heartbeat since we don't like the neighborhood we live in. I would go and find a nice waterfront home with a nice pool and buy a boat.

I'm not sure. Although I like my neighborhood and town, it's not exactly my "dream location." I just don't know how much greener the grass would be somewhere else ... LOL. We might just decide to expand/improve and stay ... mortgage free.

I would buy a house in NY, CA and NC and go between them all. I love where I am and would always want to be able to live there, but having homes in other places would also be great because for some reason I'm attached to all of them as well!

i love love love the town/area/school district we are moving to. i would definitely improve our home, but would i go crazy? no way. there is no need for that. i would much rather spend the $$ on vacations and becoming a SAHM.
ETA: if it was up to my DH we would move - not far, we would probably just buy a house on the water. we would never move out of state with both sets of parents still living in NY.

I love my house and my neighborhood, I think I'd make my 'dream' improvements, but stay put. I'm not a really fancy preson, I'm not into glam and would feel really uncomfortabe living in a really fancy area.
If we won ALOT of $, I'd also buy land on a small private lake in the Adirondacks and build a second home.

Not so I could buy a mansion, but just somewhere with a better neighborhood and schools. I love my immediate neighbors, but the overall neighborhood is going downhill.
