Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
OMG the LOVE I would go through the worst torture a million times over for my little girl. I am not the super emotional type but the second day I had to lock myself in the bathroom at the hospital to have a good cry because I couldn't believe how much I loved my little baby. It was shocking to me. And incredibly the love just grows and grows.

I went through a stage of "I can't believe I created this creature, this human being in my arms!". Even though logically you KNOW how a baby is created, when you are holding that living breathing baby in your arms, you are stunned.

Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
aww girls! i know everyone is trying to be honest and prepare the next person but everyone is scaring the heck out of eachother!!
I can tell you all this: it is way more horrific to hear about the pangs of child birth than to actually go through it. dont get me wrong, childbirth is no walk in the park and it is different for everyone.
as first times moms you have no point of reference but only of the gruesome horrific stories from others. as you gear up, you get terrified b/c you flash back to everything you've read or heard .but once you are there, you find the strength and you just surrender and go through it and then its finally over!! you have no choice.
i had a long hard birth but once it is over it is OVER and i felt great! and i can imagine that retelling my story to new moms will make them and i can see how retelling the story makes it seem a lot worse than it really was for an outsider. but like i said, you get through it.
good luck new mommies to be!!! find your strength!! read positive stories!!

I may be the only weird one, but none of those stories scare me. Watch I am going to be the one in the hospital PANICKING! I just say...My mom did it 3 times..some do it 6,7,8..I think of the wimpiest person EVER who has a baby and say 'If she can do it HE!! so can I!"
ETA: I cant spell

Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
Noone prepared me for how much I would be in love with her.
Or that all of the sudden, I would be patient because she's all that matters.

Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
Everybody made it seem like I'd be miserable but it IS possible to bring home a baby who doesnt cry much and who sleeps decent stretches. And the love you feel for them outweighs all the "inconveniences". I just remember wanting to be with him all the time.
I was also surprised that I felt good enough to be back at the gym after 3 weeks and be talking about trying for #2 almost immediately so obviously it's not THAT bad in fact, i didnt feel a thing during labor.
I try to avoid those scary posts because I know how much I hated people telling me horror stories before I had #1.

Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
I didn't realize that I wouldn't really mind waking up in the middle of the night feed her. That although I was sleep deprived I loved spending every minute with her, even at 2am. I loved that she used to curl her hand in my hair when she would drink a bottle and just look up at me sooooo content. I could have stayed that way forever.
Also even though I had the nurses keep her in the nursery at night that I couldn't wait until each morning around 6am when they would roll her into my room and I would get to give her a bottle and it was just me and her and no one else around.

Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
I had the most incredible moment with my DD the first time I saw her.
Since she was early, I only got to see her for a split second then seh was whisked away to the NICU.
After being in recovery for a few hours, I was taken to see her. I was wheeled over to her and her poor little face was swollen and one eye was not even open.
So i was on that side, but as soon as I said "hi baby, it's mommy." she turned her head to the sound of my voice, and was trying to see where I was.
The nurse said "oh, she knows who that is." She KNEW I was her mommy.
So if you think you won't bond with your baby because you are having a c/s or because of other circumstances, please think again.
She knew I was her mommy and nothing could ever change that.

If it was really that bad, some of us wouldn't be doing this a second, third (etc) time around.

Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
I was induced with DS because of low fluid. I had a great induction although many people scared the ever-loving cr@p out of me before hand. And that's not to say labor was easy- I don't know if it's ever easy, but all i know is that when I looked at DS, I then looked at my DH and was like "that wasn't so bad. I could definitely do that again."

Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
Rarely, DD (9 months) will cry in the middle of the night and I'll pick her up and rock her in the glider. After a few minutes, she'll put her head on my shoulder and fall asleep. Even at 3 am, I just sit and rock her for a while and LOVE every second of it. At those times, there is no place I'd rather be.

Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
That sometimes you will stop and look at DC in amazement because you still can't believe how lucky you are. That there giggle can make your day 1000 times better. I swear DH and I can be arguing about something and we hear our little guy start laughing or smiling and we immediately come back down to earth and don't even remember what we were arguing about lol.
And that newborn baby smell... I remember they took DS for a bath the next morning, and I kept calling down there to see when we could go get him, and harassing DH to go get him. I craved the smell of his breath and his skin... I still remember that feeling

Re: Spinoff to what no one told you....
The one thing I will always remember about the day I had DS was holding him and watching him breathe his sweet little breathe, curl his perfect little fingers, kick and stretch his little legs, arch his back, and realize that everything he was doing, every little perfect movement in this live person in front of me, was the same exact little person, who was doing the same exact things he was doing right now, but inside of me.
All those rolls and kicks in the belly, you get this "ahhhh" moment of "oh, that was you stretching your arm", or "that was you arching your back", and you can picture him living this life inside you, just like he is now living it outside you.
Another thing I will never forget is that amount of body heat they give off. It's like having your own personal blanket keeping you all warm and toasty as they lay on you.
how you just want to take inventory of, and then bite and nibble each and every part of his/her body.
the indescribable love that brings you to tears.
