Spinoff to Winthrop rooms: NSUH private rooms & question for anyone re: private rooms...

First...does anyone have any clue what the "cheapest" private room there is? I recall reading somewhere on here that it is $700! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Second...I had private rooms at LIJ with my 1st and 2nd DDs. The cost in 2005 was like $300/night or something. The cost in 2007 jumped to $550! I pulled the wool over DH's eyes somehow and he ended up agreeing to pay for 3 nights--but he kicked me out after that. Chat Icon

Last...a couple of questions...
Would YOU pay $700/night if you had the money? Part of me thinks it's just not worth it--even after a c-section, which I'll have. I also have this weird hangup that the nurses are going to Chat Icon like, "Oh here's the princess..." Chat Icon We do have the money, and I'm sure I could twist DH's arm, but I think he's really against it...

Re: Spinoff to Winthrop private rooms: NSUH private rooms & question...

I have no idea how much private rooms run. With DS I didn't pay for it and it worked out to my benefit.

This time around, since its twins, I feel like a private room is necessary. I know I am going to have a lot of visitors. And I know I am going to need a lot of help with BFing and everything else post c-section.

So, if it is $700 a night I am going to try really hard to convince DH.

DH and I did it for Sean in 2009, I think it was about $650 a night and we'll do it again b/c it was worth every single penny IMHO -

ETA - I don't care who is Chat Icon at me or thinking I'm a 'princess' .........for once (twice) in my life, I'm going to do something for ME, only b/c it makes ME comfortable (Well, DH is totally on board w/ it b/c he's not comfortable w/ the idea of me sharing a room and another family in and out all day/night o the possibility of someone else's DH or boyfriend or whatever there all night)

I'm not even TTC'n yet and I made it very clear to DH that it is a VERY strong possibility that I am going to spend a few months VERY VERY uncomfy, plus I will have to watch him drink wine while I'm drooling on the side lines Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon So this home girl is getting a private room. Of course I will probably NEVER get another b-day present again but oh well!

I got the private room at NSUH-Manhasset in 2008 and I think it was $750 a night. I do think the price is ridiculous, but it was a great thing for me and DH. I plan on doing it again for DS in January.

It kills me that I'm due in January and all rooms at NSUH will be private after the renovations are finished in June 2011.

I am torn too. I heard it was $750 which is doable for us but it's looking like a c-section for me so that would be almost 3K. I am thinking if I forgeo this than I can get DH to let me use that money towards a big christening which he insists is unnecessary. He thinks I'm planning a second wedding but this is our first born and I want something extra special and b/c DH has a big family it gets expensive.

Seriously! Chat Icon My OB said, "Well, when you come back for #4..." I really don't think a free private room at the hospital is enough incentive to have four children running around. Chat Icon

It seems like every hospital is doing construction to their maternity wings! It looks like years from now, having to share a room after delivery is going to be like one of those barbaric things of the olden days like, "When I was your age, we had no remote controls...NONE! You had to get out of your chair to change the channel!" Chat Icon

UGH!!! I have been told by everyone - friends, family - NOT to share a room but $750 a night is outrageous esp when they are going to convert all the rooms to private in a few months...at the end of the day, I will probably do it because I don't think I really want to deal with a roomate after giving birth

Is $750 a night the price difference between a standard and single room or is that the price per night for just a single room and not the "upgrade"? The reason I ask is because insurance co's are usually willing to pay up to the price of the standard, double room and you can just pay the difference. Anyone know?

OK I just called the hospital to answer my own question -- the cost for a private room at NSUH is $580 per night out of pocket (above what the insurance company will cover).

Yes this is what I paid when I had DD back in Feb. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

Seriously, the thought of my roomate I had the first night there, makes me cringe. And I can tolerate just about everyone, but she (and her VERY annoying husband) were just terrible to be around
