Spinoff Working Moms: share your EVENING routine

I get home around 6:30. DS and DH are already home.

DS is almost 4 months old.

Our routine is as follows:

6:30 - home and feed DS (I like to feed him since I don't get to see him all day)

7:00-8:00 - PJama time and activity with mommmy.

8:00 - evening nap for DS, cook dinner.

8:30 or 9:00 - DH and I eat.

10:00 - last bottle for DS, again I feed him.

10:30-11:00 - bedtime routine and down for the night

Lately, DS is showing signs that he can prob skip the last 10:00 bottle, since his naps are getting longer and longer, and sleep from 9-9.

How do I squeeze in feeding him a dinner bottle, cooking, us eating and bedtime routine plus bedtime bottle btwn the hours of 6:30 and 8:30?

Re: Spinoff Working Moms: share your EVENING routine

leave work at 715
pick up DS at Oma's
Come home (830pm)
Put DS to bed.
Cook dinner
Eat (now 930pm Chat Icon )
put dishes in the dishwasher
say we should be going to bed now10pm
say we should be going to bed now 1030pm
start dishwasher and go to bed 11pm (wishing I could still watch the daily show and colbert report)

as for squeezing all that stuff in.... DH and I used to take turns eating while the other one tended to DS... so DH would feed DS while I cooked. I would take over while DH ate. DH then takes over again so I could eat.... usually by then he's falling asleep.....

we have a flexible routine Chat Icon i get home at 4:15 and DS is at home, either with DH or the nanny.

if DH is working overtime he is home by 5pm.

we play, feed him when he gets hungry, and i try to make dinner while DH entertains DS.

DS goes to bed no later than 7pm.

then DH and i both crash on the couch with our laptops and our recorded shows. Chat Icon

10pm, we make DS's formula for the next day and wash the dishes.

10:30 - 11pm, bed. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff Working Moms: share your EVENING routine

My evening routine makes me sad.

IF I leave work on time (and that's a BIG IF) I leave at 5:30/45..

6:45/7:00 - get home. DD and DH are already home, she's usually just finished her dinner when I walk in.

7:00 - give DD a bath

7:15 - wrestle DD into a diaper and pjs

7:25 - say goodnight to Daddy, give DD her bottle and snuggle for a few minutes.

7:30 - DD goes to bed.

8:30 - DH and I eat dinner (DH cooks)/watch TV/hang out

11:00 - bed.

Tonight I won't see DD because I'm working late. Chat Icon

Evening is much harder –

I get home between 6:30 and 7:30
Negotiate peace among warring tribes
Turn off video games
Cook with the boys
Supervise the boys setting the table.
Put on my waitress hat and serve dinner and drinks
Listen to stories about the day that my kids had .. all the while trying to figure out the 2 truths and a lie (or lies).
Turn off video games
On Tuesdays and Thursdays I wrestle angry midgets into a tub of soapy water
Turn off the video games
Check homework
Check backpacks
Turn off the video games again.. and issue a warning.
Sign permission slips, notifications, etc..
Drink a fifth of whiskey
Settle the boys in with crayons or cuddle up on the couch with them for some television if there is time
Serve dessert
Supervise teeth cleaning, flossing and hand washing.
Family cuddle time starts no later than 9:15 in my bed.
Cart the littles off to their own room.
Each get 1 eskimo, 1 fishie, 1 butterfly, 1 danish, 1 normal, 1 bear.. than a big hug and a bear hug
Then I go to bed
Then they call out that they love me and daddy and each other a bajillion times
Then they call out that they have to pee/need a drink/saw a shadow/caught a pygmie
Then I fall asleep around 10ish.

Re: Spinoff Working Moms: share your EVENING routine

Mon-Wed I generally get home around 7:30/8 -- DH has already picked her up at my ILs and brought her home

I hang out with Kaydyn and then around 9:15 we start her bedtime routine and she's generally in bed by 10ish.

Thurs and Fri

We get home around 7pm

We hang out until 9:15 and then do the bedtime thing.

Once Kaydyn is in bed I get things ready for the following day.

I usually go to bed around 11:30/12.

Re: Spinoff Working Moms: share your EVENING routine

I usually pick DD up from Daycare and we get home around 6:30-6:45.

She either eats dinner right away or she plays with DH while I am cooking.

If it's a bath night we'll do that or we'll play after dinner.

Bedtime is 8pm, sometimes earlier if she's cranky and didn't take a long nap at daycare.

Re: Spinoff Working Moms: share your EVENING routine

5:30 I get home-heat up one of the frozen meals I made on Sunday, and sometimes I make DS something seperately.
5:45-6:00 DH comes home with DS from sitter
6:00-6:15- DS has dinner
Anywhere from when he's done until 7:15 we play with him in his room
7:15 bath
7:30 bottle/book
DS is out anywhere from 7:45-8

We're really lucky. Sometimes DS is so tired that we can feed him at 6 and by 7:30 he's alseep, with bath, bottle and book done as soon as he's done eating.

ETA:

I freeze meals on Sundays so all DH has to do is heat something up and he eats while I feed DS and we alternate bath/book/bottle so that I don't end up eating at 8-8:30.

After that I clean kitchen/load dishwasher.
