Spinoff...are you a food snob
I am reading all of the raves about the Cheesecake Factory food and I have to say, I am blown away.
the food may be tasty...but I would never catergorize ANY chain restaurant food as "great" (even the "Tyler Florence" menu at Applebees...and I me some Tyler...though it may explain his weight gain!)
to me, they are not "restaurants" orplaces to go when I want a great meal. they are places my other family members drag me to....or places I go to when there is no other option.
I just can't imagine myself ever seeking it out...unless it's IHOP for breakfast.
and FORGET Dennys
so, this is my snobbery. I just can't see it.
ETS: price has NOTHING to do with it. there are some great pubs/dinners that you can get better food for less than what you would pay in a chain restaurant.
and Italian food.... I am waayyyy to picky and the Olive Garden makes my skin crawl. I'll eat at home, or in Bologna, thank you.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I am a food hypocrite. LOL No really I am. I love to go to good restaurants & discover new chefs, etc. But when it comes down to it if I am hungry & there si a Denny's or an IHOP, bet your patootie I am pulling in for eggs & a short stack
ETA: I do always have this arguement with my ILs. They will go to Friendly's for a "nice dinner out." When DH & I were dating, they took him to Friday's for his B-Day dinner & I was horrified. It was for his 25th & I thought that was awful for such a big b-day. Well when I took him to Patsy's the following week for my b-day dinner to him the first thing his mom asked was "how much was it?" DH said he didn't know & her answer was something like...why would you spend 5 times as much for food that was jsut as good as Friday's. I LMAO at that comment. Every year for his b-day now HE picks the restaurant & I usually end up paying the whole bill

I'm a bit of a food snob...not a fan of chain restaurants, but sometimes you just need to get to Applebees and have the appetizer sampler!

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
For me, it depends on the type of food and my purpose for going there.
I am definitely a food snob when it comes to Italian food and steak. The Olive Garden makes me cringe (especially because you can get such good Italian food for so cheap) - and same with chain steak places. I also do not like PF Changs!
However, I really don't mind places like Appelebees or Fridays for a burger / sandwich / salad. BUt I don't really go there that often because I would rather go to a good pub for a burger than a chain.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
It depends on what you're in the mood for.
But I definitely don't think Olive Garden is a fine italian restaraunt.
But on the other hand, not being able to afford a "real" steakhouse. FH and I used to "treat" ourselves to Boulder Creek
ETA: Also, if I'm looking to go out to eat, my favorite thing is a veggie burger form Houston's.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I hear what you are saying, I wouldn't categorize Cheesecake or any other chain as fine dining, but that being said I can't say I'm a food snob because I still enjoy that stuff. While I don't consider it a special night out, I still love me some Grand Luxe, Outback, Mama Theresa's etc. It's simple comfort food.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
It is very hard for me to be impressed by restaurant food....I come from a home that my mom made unbelievable home made meals every night.
We rather find a place that serves the best wings rather than the best sauce. When it comes to Italian,,,no restaurant compares to my mom~

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
Yes and no. I definately eat at the Chili's, Fridays etc but I don't consider that a nice dinner out. That's my "grab a beer and a quick bite". Me and DH enjoy going out to nice dinners out, trying new places, and dressing in something besides jeans.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I think that you can say that a "chain" restaurant has great food. It may not be classified as fine dining, but that doesn't mean that one can't really enjoy their food. I also think there are some chain restaurants that are of a higher caliber than others. I don't think you can put friendly's in the same category as cheescake factory.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
Yes, because I dont consider those chain places real resturants. They are normally a last minute quick bite to eat. I have never planned a dinner there. I do like to eat at nicer resturants but if the choice was given I would prefer to make my own Filet Mignon home.

EWWWWWWWWWWW....So I finally went to Roll-N-Roaster.
I had a fish sandwich and fires with liquid cheese. It was inedible!
So many people LOVE that place though. I guess the roast beef is better than everything else!!!

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I think so. But not in the sense that a meal has to be expensive to be good. I think that there are a lot of overrated "nice" restaurants out there.
I think it depends on the type of meal that you are looking for.
But I don't think I could ever live in the middle of nowhere, where your only choices are olive garden, applebees or fridays! I would never go out to dinner!

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
My DH has turned me into a bit of a food snob. I used to never be but while dating him, he introduced me to wonderful new restaurants. I still eat at the chain restaurants but to me they are not "a nice dinner out". And I agree that a good meal does not have to be expensive.

I am a total food snob. I like to try new restaurants, and you won't find me in a TGI Fridays, Applebee's or Ruby Tuesday's anytime soon!
But I must admit that I do like Outback.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
After reading this I think I am the opposite of a food snob. I will pretty much eat at any chain restaurant and like it. I think I just enjoy going out to eat so I dont have to cook or clean up after.

I am happy to say I am a food snob. While I love greasy cheap food as much as the next guy, I have never eaten a Big Mac or been to White Castle.
I like my food to taste good.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
i don't think i'm a food snob... i like going out to chain restaurants- DH and i hit up TGIFridays almost every weekend... BUT, i dno't consider that a nice dinner out, more of a "i don't feel like cooking, lets go out" type of place. if we're celebrating something, i definitely like to go to a nicer place

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I have to say, Yes, I think I'm somewhat of a food snob.
My DH doesn't really care for the chain restaurants, so we don't eat there often.
When we do go out to eat, we try different places that my family probably wouldn't even try. Like Thai, sushi, Indian, etc.
However, I still eat fast food, which I think true food snobs would stay away from.
