Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
Cheescake facotry is my favorite resturant. Whenever we goto a new city we always have to visit the hard rock there.. To me as long as the food is good I don't give a crap if it's a chain or not!

I am reading all of the raves about the Cheesecake Factory food and I have to say, I am blown away.
the food may be tasty...but I would never catergorize ANY chain restaurant food as "great" tell that to the 3-4 hour wait for a table on weekends, even at off times

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
Totally! My friends get annoyed because I don't like any of those places - Fridays, Chilles, Ruby Teusdays, Applebee's. I'd honestly just rather eat at McDonalds. Cheescake Factory is okay..for appetizers and Cheesecake! But totally not worth the time you wait to get seated.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I don't consider myself a food snob, but neither myself or my DH like the chains. We don't go out as often as we used to and we would rather spend our eating-out money at an independent restaurant with a really nice atmosphere.
I do bring my nieces to Friendly's every now and again - they have a great buffalo chicken salad!

I am an absolute food snob and I have no problem admitting it. However, I do not impose my snobbiness on others. I assume I'm just picky

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I am a food snob. I worked at the largest culinary school in NYC, I can't help it. I have an appreciation for amazing food. DH and I are on the same page. If we are going out, we are going to a good restaurant. it doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, just great food. Which IMO rules out a lot of the chain places.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I dont like chain restaurants (except legal seafood) but I also dont like super trendy 'of the moment' NYC restaurants that are overpriced and full of beatiful people who dont eat.
I like good food that is simple and rustic - so bistros, pubs and little trattorias do it for me.
Best Indian food in NYC - if you ask me, it's at the Jackson Diner in Jackson Heights. Lunch buffet costs you maybe $7. If you go there before it opens you can see them loading all the fresh ingredients (and the freshly killed lambs) into the kitchen.
One of the best seafood dinners you'll have in NYC? head over to Elias Corner in Astoria - no menus, no credit cards - you look at the fish in the front of the restaurant, pick out a fish that looks good - and it's cooked and brought to you.

It is very hard for me to be impressed by restaurant food....I come from a home that my mom made unbelievable home made meals every night.
We rather find a place that serves the best wings rather than the best sauce. When it comes to Italian,,,no restaurant compares to my mom~
Same here - I agree with you
alot of places my friends will say oh this the food is great , and it is good - but I am never blown away
I will say though, that even though I am not blown away by the food - I will pretty much eat anywhere - besides White Castle

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I cannot be a food snob now since I have an 18 month old and the chain restaurants are the most kid friendly places you can go...
That being said-- I still won't wait more than 20 minutes to any chain restaurants, I will try to go to the ones that have call ahead seating, and the ones that don't ( Cheesecake, Houston's etc) I make sure to go when they open or at 5:00 so there isn't a long line...
When you have a child you will see how your opinions change of places-- it has for me...
We do go to all of the top restaurants all the time and I will never give that up!!!!

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
if food snob means having a sophisticated palette then yes i am a food snob.
i know good restaurants and i can also critique them as well.
im "that girl " that writes nasty letter to restaurant managers after having a poor meal. im not afraid to express my opinions. i think in my past life i was a food critic.
at the same time, i have no problem going to chilis for queso dip and 2x1 margiaritas.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I don't think I'm a food snob, but I prefer eating at nicer restaurants than chain ones. Although I don't eat at chain restaurants often, I like certain ones such as Cheesecake Factory. However, when we eat there, I don't consider it to be going out for a nice meal.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I wouldnt say I'm a snob, but I will not eat food that is not good to me. I can not eat crappy food at all. It must be well cooked and well prepared, or I will not eat. Plain and simple.
DH complains how picky I am all the time.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
When we are home, we will go to a nice restaurant (more so on a special occassion). I was raised in an old fashioned Italian family where I personally think that my moms cooking is sometimes better than a restaurants. So, my standards are pretty high, but I still love some chain restaurants.
When we are away, we try to stay away from chains. I feel like if you can go there at home why go there when you are away.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I love some chain restaurants and do not really see too much of a difference between them and some other restaurants. We LOVE chilis and go often and dh's fav place to go is the cheesecake factory - although the last time was not so good

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
Sorta Snob Here!!
Before dating my DH my family hardly ever went out for dinner. It had to be someone's birthday or an important event. Dh's family each out 5 nights a week and the other 2 nights are leftovers. DH sold wholesale/retail seafood for a long time, and deliverd liquor. We always had chef/owners inviting us for dinner at their resturants so we were able to have some of the most amazing meals since they were alway "showing off" for us. There was also many "business" trade shows and dinners that we were involved with so we became a little more selective with our food. Since we can't afford to live this lifestyle anymore most meals are cooked at home and people are always giving of gift cert to many nicer resturants. We do go to chain places occasionally but we normally get basic items like burgers from Fridays or Chili's. I am really not impressed with cheesecake factory, you would think with the wait that they have in that place that the food would be amazing and it just ok.

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I am 100000 percent a food snob! I hardly ever eat at Chain Restaurants... I grew up eating at only fine restaurants... my dad was in the business and was the biggest food snob, so that's how I was brought up. DH is extremely picky as well, so when we go out, its usually somewhere nice... unless of course we're looking for that big piece of cheesecake or something specific that you can only get at a chain place, but that's really not too often. We would rather go to a diner, than go to Ruby Tuesdays, Fridays, etc... and I've never stepped foot in an Olive Garden.. I'd rather make the pasta myself.

I was going to say this SAME thing but didnt want any at me by anyone
I can go to a top steak house or the best seafood place. Having grown up with my mom cooking the way she does, we're pretty darn spoiled and picky.
and having gone to ITaly so many summers, eating everything FRESH, from tomato sauce, eggs, oil, talk about organic and fresh as can be. Nothing is more mouth watering than fresh tomato sauce with olive oil right from our olive trees.
So I guess I am a food snob.
PS-we haveto meet, we have way too much in common !

Re: Spinoff...are you a food snob
I am most definitely a food snob, but it doesn't have much to do with chain restaurants. I have kids, and Friday's hands out crayons, so...
My food snobbishness has to do with fresh and homemade vs. processed, jarred, canned, "instant", etc.
I love a fine restaurant meal, in fact, one of my favorite hobbies is going to restaurants I can't afford. I just won't eat crap, regardless of who is serving it.
