Re: spoke to the nurse practitioner today
You can have PCOS and still ovulate every month. I would ask for an insulin resistance test.

Carolyn is right-one of the girls on here has PCOS and o's every month and has regular cycles. Whether you O or not is arbitrary. That is scary...I would talk to your Dr about getting the glucose tolerance test.

I have PCOS and am IR. I do not have many of the characteristics of PCOS (I am not overweight, etc.), but after having a glucose test, I was diagnosed with IR. IR means that you produce TOO much insulin (I think that's what you said your problem is) and as a result, it affects your hormones. I am on metformin, and after an adjustment period, I am doing okay. FM if you have any questions.
ETA: Forgot to mention that I do have cysts on my ovaries and do not ovulate on my own (indicative of PCOS)

Also wanted to add that I have PCOS and am not insulin resistant and I am not on metformin. PCOS is a very weird thing and you can have only one symptom or many. For me, the only symptoms are no ovulation and cystic ovaries. Depending on what your symptoms are they will treat you accordingly.
