SPR - Job and Relocation WWYD?
For the longest time DH and I discussed moving to Charlotte and me getting a transfer at work. Since then the opportunity never presented itself and we had DS so it was a moot point.
Opportunity is knocking 2 fold right now. There are two jobs...1 is at the same level I'm at now and the other is a level up.
It's hard for me to think about this because I get upset with leaving our family. My MIL helps me out so much and I know she'll be devastated if we move. But part of me thinks she would consider coming with us but not sure if that would be a good thing or not. And who knows, maybe my parents could be convinced as well.
I think i'm going to at least apply to the one for the promotion. Not sure if I'm qualified or not. I definitely qualify for the lateral one for sure but not sure if I'd make a move if it isn't worth my while. But maybe it would be worth my while. Cost of living sure would be cheaper and I could get out of the housing mess here. (Coincidentally we are this close to signing a contract with a contractor to put a huge addition on our home that I've been majorly stressing about because it would be so expensive.)
There is also the issue of DH getting a job but he's a teacher so not sure what the market is like.
So financially this might make sense. But I'm not sure if that is a good enough reason.
WWYD? Apply and see what happens? Beg our family to move too? Or something else?

I'd apply and see what happens. If not you will always wonder what if.

Re: SPR - Job and Relocation WWYD?
Here is my initial reaction... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
But that is the selfish part of me that loves having you here as a friend to me and having Matthew here as a friend to Lucas.
When I push those feelings to the side, here are my thoughts. *I* personally, could not do it. I need to be close to my parents and the thought of moving away from them is hard for me. (Lord help me if my parents ever decide to move! ) I moved around a bit after graduating college and it was hard for me to be away from them and that was without a family! So I don't know how I would handle it being away from them with Lucas.
That being said, I am sure if it was something I had to do, I could survive... for me the question would be would I WANT to do it.
As far as the jobs are concerned, I am not sure I would make such a big move for a job that was not an advancement. The promotion would be more appealing to me if it involved picking up my family and moving out of state. (keep in mind this is all MY opinion)
So, when it all comes down to it, I am of absolutely no help to you because I could argue both sides of the coin!
You know I still love you no matter what you decide!

I would definitely apply. I live in raleigh-about 2 hrs from Charlotte, but my sister (Mikismom) lives in Charlotte. I always see signs here that NC needs teachers so I don't think that would be a problem.

Amanda, trust me you guys are also a LARGE part that holds me here but didn't want to say that in the original post because I thought maybe I was crazy. Because other than my MIL you guys are the only ones I have holding me to NJ. And the fact that my family is in LI.
And I don't particularly like the winters here
In all honesty I would hate to do it without a promotion either.
But it would get me out of the house situation because they would pay for the relo and selling it.
One thing I just found out though is that they *might* consider letting the higher position stay in NJ...then it is a no brainer for me.
The thought of starting in a new position though scares the crap out of me. But if we do go ahead with the new extension on our house a big rise would help out right about now.

You have nothing to lose. Apply and see what happens. If you get either job, you can always turn them down. If you don't apply you may always regret it. Good Luck!

Re: SPR - Job and Relocation WWYD?
You might want to look into your husband's job opportunities before making any decisions. Teachers off-LI don't always make the same salary. I would not sign the contract until this is all decided. Tell the contractor that you may be asked to reloc for your job and you need to wait a few weeks. That is a fair thing to do. Have you been down to the area? If not, take a trip there. See if you even like it. If you apply for the job, IMO, you need to be very serious about taking it. Turning it down could be seen as a negative for your future in the company.

You already know how my DH feels about moving...he would go in a heart-beat and I am the one who wants to stay because of my friends in NJ and my family in LI. My job, I can do from anywhere.
