SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
We put up a wall in our bedroom to give Lola her own little "nook". It's just enough space for her changing table/dresser, the rocker, crib. It's a small space.
Problem is, it gets NO heat. Last night it was pretty cold in there
I'm trying to find the safest little space heater for her space.
Does anyone use a small one that they feel is safe? The thought of having one in there makes me SO nervous. It's not like she plays in there. It would only be when she is sleeping/napping.
Just wondering if anyone uses one in their children's rooms? Or even in their own space?

Re: SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
Hmmm. what if you put it in the entry way and not totally in her space. They have ones with fans on them to blow in the heat. I would be worried about when she starts throwing stuff out of the crib that she would toss something on the heater. I think they even make plug in baseboard type heaters. That I would feel safe with.
I feel your pain with having DC in your room. Liam is 17 months and we are kicking him out this month. We only have one bedroom and we are destryong the layout of the house this weekend to build him a room. I HATE the way our house is going to look and we are going to have the TINIEST living room but, he has GOT TO GO!

Re: SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
We have one bc DD's room is right over the garage and her room gets frigid..we ONLY turn it on when she's asleep and have it unplugged normally...We have it at the far corner of the room next to nothing..it's one that has an automatic shutoff when it reaches a certain temp that you set it for and a tip over mechanism...we got it at bed bath and beyond

Re: SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
We have one in DS's room - it's the farthest from our boiler and it's freezing in there.
The one we have is similar to this one (same brand and concept, different model)
Link
I like it because it has temperature control and the coils aren't exposed. It also doesn't take up a lot of room.
DH is in the FDNY and is very anti-space heater so he did his research before getting one and this is the one he picked out.

Re: SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
we got a picture frame wall heater - it hangs on the wall so that clothing does not randomly hit it
just hang it and plug it in - very easy

Re: SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
Our heating system works so there is no heat on at night, and it comes on in the morning only. Now, this is fine for us grownups who can regulate their own temps, but not so good for babies. We have an oil filled radiator that works really well, its only small, and not too hot to touch, and also has a thermostat. Its by DeLonghi.

Re: SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
I bought a fan space heater and point it toward the room, it's not actually in DS room (it's in the livingroom ) just in case something happens

Re: SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
I decided to go with this one based on all the great reviews it got on Amazon.
I also wanted one you could put on a table top. There really isn't much room on the floor for it so the fact it was small was perfect.

Re: SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
We just got central heat a couple of years ago( we live in LA where its not the norm ) Before that we used a small ceramic heater for my DD room. They don't get hot and they are very safe. It had an automatic shut off in case it overheaded. It worked really well.

Re: SPR - Space Heater in childs room?
Only space heater I'm OK with....
I worked for an UBER-safety-conscious company and this was the only one our facilities people would approve for us to use in our chilly offices.
It's set to low and just takes the chill off their bedroom. No part of it is hot to the touch, so if one of the DC's touches it, they will not be burned (of course I'm sure one of them would learn to turn the setting to high....)
We keep it in the middle of DC's bedroom and we've taught older DS (2.5yo) NOT to touch it and he respects that. It's only turned on when younger DS (11mos) is in his crib.
HTH.
