SPR: I don't know whether to be happy or cry

but right now crying seems to be winning. I got laid off today. They asked all the part time people to leave because of declining revenues. I know I shouldn't take it personally, but it really hurts and it was so embarrassing.

I know I always say I want to be a SAHM but financially we can't. I just don't know what to do right now. I'm just sitting here crying because I feel as if I failed myself and my family in some way.

You did not fail your family...do not blame yourself.

This may be a blessing in disguise. Sometimes you think you can't financially make it and you do even with the loss of an income. Hang in there it will get better

Awww, don't take it personally or be embarrased. You know it is nothing that you did. It is a fact that companies will most times target the part-time employees when faced with a reduction in force.

You're great at what you do! There is a market out there for talented people in finance. Good luck! And enjoy your time with your kiddies while you can. It's a wonderful time to be home

You didn't fail your family and you have nothing at all to be embarrassed about. Sometimes things happen and you have to know that they are blessings in disguise even if you don't feel that way in your heart. There is a bigger plan but waiting to find it out can be so hard. Keep your chin up and be open to possibility. Take a couple days to regroup but then look into your options!

You have in no way failed your family. I've been laid off 3 times in the last 5 years, so I know what you're going through. It's OK to cry and feel sorry for yourself for a day or so, but don't get consumed by it. Yes it sux but don't take it personally, it's business. I know it's easier said than done, but it's probably a blessing in disguise. Good luck finding a new job if you decide to go back to work.

It does hurt! Try not to take it personally. There is nothing you could have done. Someone else decided for you. You did your job and someone thought the position was no longer necessary among the rest of the people ALSO laid off. Just remember "it's business, it's not personal".

You will find something else.

Maybe you can take in another child for a while and be that SAHM you always wanted. This is beyond your control. Refocus and find what makes YOU happy. Dont be embaressed it happened to so many.

I am so sorry this happened to you! I hope you find a new job soon and can manage to enjoy a little time as a SAHM, though I know it's hard when you need to work.

I've been laid off twice in one calendar year and I totally understand the 'failure' part... and the pain and tears.. the feeling of being lost and helpless.

Its hard. Being laid off is much more than just losing a job and income its mentally devastating.



You've heard it before, but its very very true. You had NO control over this. They did not FIRE you, they didn't pass judgement on you, your performance, your worthiness or your character. To them it was a bottom line they had to meet. It is NOT YOUR FAULT.

I can only say it gets better with time and its actually almost better than being fired or leaving a job because its less of a hassel to explain. You didnt fail (fired) and you didnt give up (quit) you were the one who got let down (laid off).

They say when one door closes, another one opens. I believe in that. I know it will be hard but you will be able to make it work. And when you get upset, just look at those gorgeous children of yours!
