SPR: Thoughts on this situation?

After going back and forth about my nephew coming to live with us, we decided that it would be okay. (see this post)

Less than a week later, we found out that my BIL's orders to be stationed in San Diego had been stopped because of one of his superiors.

A few weeks after that, everything was worked out and now DH's nephew WILL be coming to stay with us.

BUT -

My BIL and SIL had 3 dogs. 2 are "sisters." They had to give the 3rd dog away (not the sisters) when they moved to North Carolina because they were living on base and only allowed to have 2 dogs - so they gave her to a close neighbor. Now, as mentioned in previous post... my SIL is living in Texas and took one of the 2 sister dogs with her and my BIL has the other. They were trying to figure out what to do with her because my BIL can't take her to live in the barracks.

Anyhoo - they mentioned actually EUTHANIZING her if they couldn't find someone to take her... which of course had me absolutely outraged - so I said that as a last possible resort, we would take her... although I didn't really want to take her because we have a 10 week old baby and a dog of our own (who is a bit of a nervous nelly!) This was all about 2 months ago.

Fast forward to yesterday when Steve gets a text from his brother saying that said dog "sleeps with the fishes" - of course I'm thinking this is a joke. Steve tells me it's NOT a joke... his brother is serious. I'm crying and so upset. And asking him to make sure that it's true because I'm really upset about it!

Today, Steve says "Oh, they were just kidding about the dog. She's in the car with BIL and they're on their way here."

UMMM - WHAT?

Is it just me or should they have mentioned to us that we would be getting a new dog??? Now I know that I said we would take her, but I figured they had found a home for her when we didn't hear anything about her. Now BIL is driving cross-country with her and basically giving her to us.

Dh says "but you said we would take her" - and I know that's true. But I thought I'd be given a LITTLE notice! They will be here in a few days!!!

THOUGHTS????

Errrr....they should have made sure you still wanted the dog....

But I think you would have said you did, so I guess its a moot point

I would be annoyed.

A little advanced notice would be nice. Considering you now are taking in another person & another animal to live with you.


"sleeps with the fishes" text could have been replaced with "the dog is coming your way tomorrow"

First of all I do not like your BIL's sense of humor. Secondly, I agree, you should have been given advanced notice. But I do think you are awesome for taking the dog in
