What are your thoughts on Paris' situation? - Poll
I voted for the 2nd choice. I am not a fan of the girl, and I do think that celebrities should be treated just like the rest of us, but I think this is a bit extreme. If I did the same thing as her, would I be sentenced to 23 days in jail? I don't think so...
Refresh my memory, what did Michelle Rodrigues do that she was out of jail in 2 hours?

Los Angeles authorities said jail overcrowding was the reason Rodriguez was let out early.
"Our prosecutors are not happy about it, but that is the sad reality of our overcrowded jails," said Los Angeles Attorney General spokeswoman Contessa Mankiewicz.
Rodriguez was not completely exonerated, however. The actress must complete her 30 days of community service, and her probation, which was scheduled to conclude in 2007, was pushed back to 2009.
She spent 65 hours behind bars.

I think her sentence was harsh, but I think that the judge was probably pizzed that she wouldn't take any responsibility for being caught TWICE violating her probabtion from DUI. After the first time she signed a document at the station house stating she understood that if she violated her probation she'd be arrested and tried and then in court said she didn't read it, she didn't understand what the cops were saying, her publicist told her it was fine, blah, blah, blah. I am guessing that if she just took a little responsibility for the situation it wouldn't have turned out this way.
And I don't think it's right that the actress from Lost got out after a day or 2 for her 2nd DUI.

I'm tired of it, she needs to finish her sentence. This whole she's in, she's out thing...cupcakes, friends, press...it makes our justice system look dumb; and, our "celebrities" worse.

You know what, just because she is rich doesn't mean that the laws should be changed for her.
She was woman enough to do the crime, now she needs to grow up and deal with the consequences.

She was initially given probation, which she did not take seriously. Thus, this is what happens when you violate probation. However, the sentence was a little excessive.

That's my point though, I don't think the time fits the crime. I agree celebrities shouldn't be able to get away with murder (OJ), but I also don't think they should get harsher punishments because of who they are. They should be treated exactly like the rest of the general public, and I don't think anyone else who did what she did would have gotten as harsh a punishment.
I also think the public likes to say she gets special treatment being a celebrity by having her own cell and what not, but she's secluded. She's basically by herself. I understand it's for her safety, but the other inmates get to "socialize".. Paris is basically in solitary confinement - which again is worse!
Who knew the day would come when I would be defending Paris Hilton..

She's def. guilty of not taking responsibility for her own actions.. hence leaving it to her publicist to tell her she could drive after 30 days or whatever... but again, still a harsh sentence..

Imagine your kids are driving and there is a person who is on the same road driving drunk, thankfully that person gets pulled over before he/she kills someone (possibly your child)... still think it's a harsh sentence?

If ALL drunk drivers were given the same sentence, then no, I wouldn't think it was harsh... unfortunately, not all of them are.

Oh absolutely for her own safety.. but because she is who she is, it's rougher than the average inmate who gets to socialize with other inmates and have all the priveledges "regular" people get.

If you think about it, if she had just turned herself in earlier instead of waiting until June 4th, she'd be almost done by now!

Re: What are your thoughts on Paris' situation? - Poll
Check this out... I just got this breaking news update email from CNN:
-- Preacher's wife Mary Winkler, who killed her husband with a shotgun blast to the back as he lay in bed, is sentenced to three years -- 210 days in prison and the rest on probation.
This lady shoots her husband in the back of the head with a shot gun and gets 210 days in jail.... still think it's a fair sentence and she was treated like a "normal" citizen?

Honestly, I really don't care at all about it (not an option on the poll)

Not all drunk drivers CAN be given the same sentence. She was caught violating her probation from a previous drunk driving "incident". I think the punishment fit the crime (23 days, not 45).

I actually had that as an answer, but then I figured the people who didn't care wouldn't even open the thread..

Ok, you're totally entitled to your own opinion.. so let me ask you.. you think Nicole Ritchie is going to jail too since she violated her probation as well? I hope not.. I love her...

OK, that woman was emotionally, physically, and sexually abused by her husband, I may have done the same thing. HOWEVER, a jury found her guilty (of manslaughter)... there was no jury with Paris, just a judge. IMO, you can't compare the two.
It basically boils down to this... someone has to be made an example of... hopefully from this point on, drunk driving laws and penalties will become harsher... IMO, it's a serious crime.

she was driving with a suspended licensce for driving drunk the first time. She deserves jail time, just like anyone else who has done the same.
