SPR: Went on a job interview a week or so ago... just found out I didn't get the job because....
... I HAVE A YOUNG CHILD.
I kid you not, those were this man's exact words. He said he had a few women in the office who have young children and he didn't want to take on another one and have to risk me running out for him on a moment's notice. I explained that I have daycare all lined up, but he didn't care.
I'M SO PISSSED! And I'm pretty sure what he's doing is illegal, but whatever. Just venting.

Besides, he could deny it. He said it over the phone. He could've just emailed me as we have been in contact via email as to when he would touch base with me about the position... but now I see why he wouldn't want to leave a paper trail. Jackass.

Exactly... besides the fact that I have a HUGE support system outside of daycare if anything were to happen.
I'm just so bummed. I'm ready to go back to work and this would've been a great fit.

I've never asked about that when interviewing people because I thought the law kept you from asking about marital or kid status.

yeah I'm curious too.
Honestly I never mention her  what I do or don't do in my private time does not affect my job. I have daycare and other stuff lined up and I will use my sick/vacation days if I need to for her but I don't let her affect my job (often or only that I'm on LIF  )

He didn't ask.
He needed to reschedule the interview so when he called my HOME to do so, in the morning, he heard DS screaming in the background. I was all flustered and said something along the lines of "Friday will work because I have someone to watch my son." Stupid I know.
But during the interveiw HE asked about my son, asking how old he was. I assured him I had daycare lined up (which I do when the time arises) and that my husband would be the one resonsible for dropping off and picking up.
Regardless of how my son was brought up, he told me that he was the reason I wasn't be hired... which is WRONG!

Not that you want to work THERE but you should still consider filing an EEOC charge.

The New York office's hours of operation are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you have an employment discrimination question or if you wish to file a charge, please call the EEOC National Contact Center toll-free at 1-800-669-4000 or 1-800-669-6820 (TTY). You may also write the office at 33 Whitehall Street, New York, NY 10004.

Even though you don't want the job - and like others said, he's doing you a favor because who would want to work for someone who obviously isn't sympathetic to parents - he should at least be inconvenienced by his stupidity, kwim?
